About the Role

Provides clerical, reception, web and desktop publishing support for the Student Learning Commons (SLC). Updates and maintains electronic consultation schedules and assists students with making appointments with SLC staff. Responds to queries regarding SLC programs and services; directs students to appropriate SLC worksheets, books, and online resources; makes referrals to other university services as appropriate. Assists the supervisor, SLC Coordinators, Graduate Peer Facilitators and Peer Educators with various projects and events to prepare/assemble print materials and setup registration. Maintains and regularly updates the SLC workshop schedule and the university\'s learning management system (i.e. Canvas); compiles and summarizes statistical information. Assists the supervisor with staff orientation and payroll timesheet data entries. Assists with posting content on departmental online communication channels; maintains and organizes the SLC Office\'s filing system; distributes incoming mail. Arranges and organizes meeting room, computer lab and equipment bookings.

Qualifications

High-school graduation and general courses or training of moderate duration (one semester/equivalent) in desktop publishing, word processing, spreadsheet, web publishing applications and in office practices. 2 years minimum experience.

  • An equivalent combination of formal education, certificate/program of study and experience is acceptable.
  • 50 wpm keyboarding skill with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Good knowledge of standard office practices, methods and equipment.
  • Good knowledge of current social media applications (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).
  • Good knowledge of university services and programs.
  • Good knowledge of academic assignment conventions.
  • Good knowledge of HTML encoding.
  • Excellent intercultural skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, content management system, learning management system, web publishing and desktop publishing applications (i.e. Word, Excel, Publisher, Adobe Photoshop, CQ5, Dreamweaver) at an intermediate level.
  • Ability to use a scheduling application (i.e. Corporate Time) at a basic level
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to exercise mature judgement and initiative.
  • Ability to handle confidential/sensitive material with discretion.
  • Ability to take and transcribe minutes with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations with accuracy.

  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings/weekends.
  • Ability to lift, move or carry materials weighing up to 10 kg.
