The Hudson Regional Cancer Program, a leading provider of Cancer Care in the North Simcoe Muskoka region, is seeking a dedicated Student/Radiation Therapy Assistant to join our dynamic team. Qualifications:Education:
  • Must be enrolled in a university education program related to health sciences, completion of a minimum of one-year required.
  • Candidates enrolled in a Radiation Therapy program preferred.
Experience:
  • Minimum 1 year experience in customer service, direct interaction with the public is required
  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting and/or directly with patients is considered an asset
Competencies:
  • Self-starter with a positive nature, pleasant disposition, a can-do attitude and a strong team player
  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills
  • Intermediate computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office programs

  • Ability to prioritize workload with varying deliverables
  • Ability to work both within a team and independently with minimal supervision
  • Must maintain confidentiality pertaining to patients and staff
  • Ability to work flexible hours including days and evenings
  • Adherence to policy and procedures related to health and safety and patient safety
  • Ability to push and pull wheeled equipment and moveable carts
Position Summary:The Student/Radiation Therapy Assistant is a is a key team player that positively impacts the patient, family, and staff experience in our clinics. The successful applicant will support members of the radiation treatment multidisciplinary team to ensure a high-quality patient experience, efficient functioning of the unit and participate in ongoing projects and day to day administrative tasks. Please note this is a temporary position with the possibility of extension.Responsibilities:
  • Prepare treatment, procedure and consult rooms.
  • Physically escorts patients within the department when required. Must be able to move or assist patients independently using wheelchairs and stretchers.
  • Assist team members with patient transfer to and from procedure table.
  • Confirm patient identifiers prior to all patient related tasks.
  • Assists patients and their families by directing their inquiries to the appropriate member of the healthcare team.
  • Assist members of the team with administrative tasks including but not limited to: phone calls, document management, data entry and other duties as required.
  • Ensures all areas of the department are stocked as needed with linens, medical and office supplies etc.
  • Exhibit professionalism and respect in all forms of communication
  • Adhere to RVH Code of Conduct and Privacy Pledge
  • Comply with evidence-based practices and standards (including Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), safe use of equipment.
  • Communicate and collaborate with all members of Team RVH, such as nursing, clerical, logistics, etc.
  • Responsible for the transportation of Radiation Therapy equipment and patient immobilization devices within the Cancer Centre and to/from the Simcoe pod.
  • Assist patients with electronic completion of the symptom screening tool.
  • Other duties as assigned.
