Hatch is currently looking for a dynamic Civil Engineering Student for a 4- or 8-month co-op starting in May 2024 at our Trail, B.C. location. Candidates should demonstrate an interest in the field of Structural Engineering. The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and always be looking to learn new things.

Trail is located 10 minutes from Rossland and the famous Red Mountain Resort. The region is a mecca for mountain biking, hiking, fishing, pedaling and other outdoor activities in the summer and skiing / snowboarding in the winter. If you are a hard worker, is passionate about structural engineering, have strong communication and interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and love the outdoors, we would like to hear from you.

As the successful candidate, you will:

  • Assist in the preparation of engineering drawings, design calculations, material takeoff, literature review, technical specifications, and reports for energy and industrial projects.
  • Assist intermediate and senior engineers in performing structural inspections and structural inspection reporting development, including field visits, and other site activities on existing industrial sites.
  • Use of CAD tools for 2D drawings and 3D modelling.
  • Analyze using analytical tools to develop FEM models under the supervision of engineers.
  • Provide support for progress reporting and assessment for various ongoing construction and condition assessment tasks.
  • Interface with field staff and support project site work, as necessary.
You bring to the role:
  • The successful candidate will be a 3rd or 4th year student working toward a degree in Civil Engineering with specific interest in structural analysis and design. Successful completion of, or enrollment in structural engineering courses is required.
  • Familiarity with CAD/Design software applications such as MathCAD, Excel, SAP2000, STAAD.Pro, MicroStation and AutoCAD will be considered an asset.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated writing and oral communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office software.
  • High regard for job safety and quality work
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.
  • Extracurricular involvement demonstrating an interest in the structural engineering field and a passion for engineering.
