Our Team

Our Sudbury Operations have been in existence for more than 100 years. With five mines, a mill, a smelter, a refinery and nearly 4,000 employees it is also one of the largest integrated mining complexes in the world.

The Port Colborne Refinery was also commissioned 100 years ago on the shore of Lake Erie. Raw materials and finished products from Vale\xe2\x80\x99s Sudbury and Newfoundland and Labrador operations are transported to Port Colborne for processing.

The Mines Technical Services (MTS) team is responsible for maintaining a variety of functions including mine planning, scheduling, surveying, backfill, ventilation, ground control, geology metrics tracking, production statistics data input/review, incentives administration, annual capital plan development, and operating and capital cost tracking for variances.

The Vale Central Engineering group has accountabilities to deliver engineering design and studies for the various Vale mines and plants in the Sudbury region. The Central Engineering team in Sudbury provides engineering designs for Vale\xe2\x80\x99s Sudbury Operations, including 4 mines, smelter, refinery, and mill.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Central Engineering (Structural/Civil) Co-op Student to join our NDE Group in Sudbury. This is a fixed term position for a duration of 4 months beginning May 2024.

The successful candidate will work both remotely from home, and at any one of our Sudbury and area sites, alongside Engineers, Designers and other personnel in the organization, to assist with a wide variety of tasks related to technical and engineering support. Duties may include helping with engineering work, drafting, reviewing reports, participating in quality reviews and/or audits, helping with office work and completing on-site work in our plants and/or mines.

Although previous experience in mining or an industrial setting is considered an asset, we also appreciate that diversity of thought comes from our differences \xe2\x80\x93 and that\xe2\x80\x99s what makes us great!

About You

Education:

• Currently enrolled and in good standing in a Civil/Structural Engineering Co-op program
• Please include university transcript(s) in the application.

Experience:

• Previous work experience in an industrial setting would be an asset

Skills:

• Follow Vale\xe2\x80\x99s Safety Policies, Programs and Legislative Standards
• Strong computer skills
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and work well with others in a team environment
• Written and oral communication skills
• Must be obsessed with safety and risk
• Demonstrate open and transparent dialogue in all aspects of work
• Develop skills and abilities related to the provision of engineering to Ontario Operations
• Ensure compliance to the applicable regulations, standards and guidelines
• Maintain a high level of professional conduct
• Complete assigned projects safely and on time. Project work may include engineering document scanning, engineering standard editing, data analysis and reporting
