Our Sudbury Operations have been in existence for more than 100 years. With five mines, a mill, a smelter, a refinery and nearly 4,000 employees it is also one of the largest integrated mining complexes in the world. Sudbury is also home to several administrative sites serving both the Ontario Operations as well as all our North Atlantic Operations.

Port Colborne is home to our Cobalt and Precious Metals Refineries, and Nickel Packaging Plant. Here raw materials from our Sudbury operations are processed into electro cobalt and precious metals products and finished nickel product from Vale refineries are packaged and shipped to customers around the world.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking 4 ENGINEERING CO-OP STUDENTS (RELIABILITY) \xe2\x80\x93 SPRING 2024 to join our Vale Canada Operations in the Mines and Surface Plants in Sudbury, Ontario. The position will be onsite within our Mines or Surface Plant Operations in the Sudbury basin. This is a fixed term (4 month) position.

As an Engineering Co-op Student, you will have the opportunity to further your development by providing day-to-day support for various projects and initiatives within the Reliability team. From operations to leadership development, diversity & inclusion, and culture, you will have a holistic and enriching experience building your engineering skillset. You will also gain a deeper understanding of our company and our sustainable approach to mining via exposure to other Vale operations in Canada.

In this position, you will:

  • Work with reliability engineers and advisors to develop and improve maintenance strategies to increase equipment availability and reduce operating costs.
  • Analyze equipment data trends and assist in the failure analysis and creation of engineering reports on equipment, components and system improvements
  • Identify reliability opportunities and collaborate with trades, vendors and technical specialists to develop and implement practical solutions.
  • Support the Home Safe Model of risk and hazard management and lead by example.
About You

Education
  • Currently enrolled as a student in an Engineering Program (preferably Mechanical, Electrical and Structural)
Skills.
  • Previous work experience in an industrial setting would be an asset.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal communication, analytical and problem-solving skills and a proven safety record are essential.
