About the opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Structural Engineer to support our Industrial and Infrastructure division at our office in Burlington. We are looking for someone with a combination of technical skills and passion, to support and lead various structural projects while maintaining our high standard of quality.

About the role

  • Prepare cost effective structural engineering designs from conceptual design to detail design, tender and construction in accordance with Canadian Codes and Standards.
  • Perform analysis and design of steel structures and concrete foundations for industrial and infrastructure projects.
  • Perform site visits and inspect existing structures. Perform evaluation and analysis of existing structures for modifications and additions and propose reinforcement solutions.
  • Prepare material take-offs of steel and concrete.
  • Complete tasks under minimal supervision ensuring that objectives of cost, quality and time are met.
  • Supervise the work of designers the project team.
  • Be able to work directly with drafting staff to produce detailed drawing packages.
  • Liaise with client representatives and general contractors directly.
  • Manage small projects primarily led by structural scope.
  • Maintain and build upon client relationships.
Qualifications

About you
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Civil or Structural engineering from a recognized University. (Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree would be considered an asset).
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) within the Province of Ontario.
  • Minimum of 7 \xe2\x80\x93 10 yrs experience in the design of industrial and/or institutional type buildings.
  • Solid experience in structural design and certification of various building types and heights, including lateral load analysis.
  • Proficiency in design of steel structures, reinforced concrete structures, and various types of heavy concrete foundations for buildings and equipment. (Masonry and wood framed structural design experience would be considered an asset).
  • Proficiency in application of Canadian Codes and Standards. (Proficiency US and International Codes and Standards is an asset)
  • Proficiency in structural engineering design software in one or more of STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, MathCAD, RISA, etc.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, NavisWorks and Smart Plant would be considered an asset.
  • Experienced in dealing directly with clients and contractors.
  • Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and as part of a multidisciplinary group.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Site inspection and reporting experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products to prepare reports, specifications, presentations, and estimates.
