AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Senior Structural Engineer for employment in the Whitby, Ontario office.

This is an exciting opportunity for a professional engineer to play a key role in the design and construction of a wide variety of building structures and contribute to a dynamic team of engineers, architects and technicians with a focus on delivering high quality, innovative building design solutions.

In this position, you will be an important addition to the Structural Department of the Buildings + Places group, consisting of A/S/M/E/C disciplines all under one roof. Participate in a wide variety of projects including subway stations and other transit facilities, vehicle storage/maintenance facilities, office buildings, parking structures, public facilities, municipal and industrial facilities. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Fully competent engineer capable of using independent judgement to evaluate, analyze and design structures in reinforced concrete, structural steel, masonry, and other building materials, with thorough working knowledge of OBC, NBCC, and related codes/standards.
  • Interpret project requirements, develop proposed solutions, perform computer modelling, structural analysis and design calculations, comply with applicable codes and standards, prepare contract drawings and specifications, conduct field investigations, prepare reports, liaise with clients, supervise graduate engineers and CAD technicians, perform shop drawing review.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in the design of building structures, including subway stations and other transit facilities, vehicle storage/maintenance facilities, office buildings, parking structures, public facilities, first transponders municipal structures, and industrial facilities.
  • Licensed professional engineer (P.Eng.) registered with PEO.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Skills in the areas of team building, collaboration and effective communications with colleagues, clients and contractors.
  • Ability to manage and supervise graduate engineers and CAD technicians.
  • Effective time-management, written communications skills, analytical and interpersonal skills as well as good decision making, planning and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to meet required delivery dates for multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to analyze and design structural elements using SAP2000 or similar structural analysis/design software.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office applications including Word and Excel.
