AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:
This role is responsible for project management and implementation of key capital projects and initiatives required to realize the City's vision of the Riverwalk. This role will ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget and to the standards required by legislation and the City. This role will focus initially on the Downtown Brampton Flood Protection, ensuring the construction of this initial phase of the Riverwalk is delivered to meet the City's timelines for funding, development and housing growth. In the future, the role will be focused on implementation of the second phase of Riverwalk to create a public realm around and outwards from the Downtown Brampton Flood Protection. The role may also be involved in other projects and priorities that align with the Term of Council priorities and corporate objectives. The role is responsible for delivering outcome-based, effective and efficient corporate projects. The role reports to the Director, Environment & Development Engineering.
This position will provide key advisory and project leadership support to the Director, Environment & Development Engineering to deliver key capital projects and initiatives. High profile initiatives include:
Project Management of Construction of the Downtown Brampton Flood Protection
Project Management for Special Policy Area Boundary adjustment and approval for Downtown Brampton
Development of funding approaches and mechanisms to implement the City's Urban Design Master Plan
Supporting the implementation of capital projects as required in the City's Urban Design Master Plan
OPERATIONAL STRATEGIES
Manage projects and the flow of information between external stakeholders and City staff and Council.
Building relationships with senior leadership and external stakeholders needed to foster optimal outcomes for projects and initiatives in the City.
Provide project management expertise and leadership to support strategic initiatives and projects, with a main focus on Riverwalk and the Downtown Brampton Flood Protection.
Lead and participate in project teams and gather information from a wide variety of sources to ensure effective decision making can occur within tight timelines.
PARTNERSHIP AND RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
Provide guidance to senior leaders to determine appropriate resolution of operational and politically sensitive matters.
Build and maintain effective relationships within all levels of government and external stakeholders to support Divisional and corporate goals and objectives.
Collaborate with partners, assess and prioritize issues, research and coordinate supporting information and facilitate appropriate action to ensure success in achieving shared goals.
Demonstrate knowledgeable leadership to build trust and sense of shared responsibility in the delivery of Divisional goals and objectives.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
Provide consultative advice and expertise on issues that may impact the division, department and the City and provide recommendations accordingly. `
Act as key contributor to communication processes within the Department and expedite information for effective delivery to various audiences and endpoints.
RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
Build professional relationships with internal and external customers, government agencies and key stakeholders to build frameworks and foundations for success in delivering Divisional and corporate priorities.
Anticipate and troubleshoot issues, determine appropriate courses of action.
Work with other levels of government to advance support for long-term vision of Riverwalk. and other key Brampton interests.
PEOPLE LEADERSHIP
Lead, motivate and support the delivery team. Establish performance objectives and work assignments and motivate staff through coaching and guidance.
Provide direction and guidance to project team, and outside consultants or vendors who provide project support and services as required.
Responsible for ensuring adherence to internal policies and procedures, i.e. Human Resources practices, collective agreements, Procurement, by-laws and applicable legislative regulations, i.e., Health and Safety and Construction.
Partner with staff in other divisions and departments to ensure collaboration and alignment of initiatives throughout the City.
COMMUNICATION AND REPORTING
Provide proactive strategic communications for key initiatives such as briefings and reports.
Provide advice to senior leaders and Council on matters that are subject to litigation, and report back on outcomes of proceedings.
Attend and represent the department to present reports, make presentations, and provide consultative professional advice and expertise.
Work closely with Communications to ensure accurate key messages for media purposes.
CORPORATE CONTRIBUTION
Anticipate, assess and evaluate internal and external factors and trends that affect the organization such as technological and organizational practices and recommend strategies to implement measures and mitigate risks.
Work with other City divisions and staff to develop funding advocacy materials and approaches to secure funding for remainder of Riverwalk.
Maintain knowledge of collective agreements, City policies and practices, legislation, regulations and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Prepare capital requests in annual budget for design of various projects identified in the Riverwalk Urban Design Master Plan.
BUDGET MANAGEMENT
Use of effective resource and expense management at all times to meet corporate policies and guidelines.
Manage and control project expenditures to ensure budget compliance.
Lead internal staff working groups and manage external vendors to budget.
TEAMWORK AND COOPERATION
Lead and manage projects and program initiatives.
Ability to foster engagement and contribute to the building of consensus to achieve Service Plan goals and objectives.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment to achieve Service Plan goals and objectives while respecting diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives.

SELECTION CRITERIA:
EDUCATION:
Post-secondary degree or diploma in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or equivalent related field.
PMP Certification is an asset.
EXPERIENCE:
5-7 years' experience in leading capital project delivery of public sector projects
Proven project management experience.
Proven relationship management experience.
OTHER SKILLS AND ASSETS:
Thorough knowledge of Municipal, Regional, Provincial and Federal Governments and applicable Legislations is an asset.
Ability to communicate vision and goals to targeted stakeholders.
Solid Customer Service and People Management skills; Interface with internal and external key stakeholders, government agencies, vendors and consultants.
Solid Negotiation skills to negotiate with key stakeholders, vendors and consultants to ensure optimal resources are in place to meet project and operational deliverables.
Solid Organizational skills; Detail oriented, well organized and able to prioritize complex tasks with critical deadlines.
Solid Analytical skills for complex problem solving.
Computer proficiency in Microsoft office/software.
Mandatory Requirements:
Member in good standing of Professional Engineers Ontario, OACETT, or similar Canadian engineering licensing organization.
Ontario G Driver's license in good standing.
