Job Summary
Join the Recreation Sites & Trails team in a unique opportunity to work in BC\xe2\x80\x99s outdoor recreation sector. BC offers a host of exceptional recreation opportunities, and you can be a member of the Recreation Sites and Trails team that works to manage and maintain BC\xe2\x80\x99s backcountry recreation sites and trails. With oversight direction from the Regional Manager, Recreation Sites and Trails, and working with a high degree of independence, the position is responsible for the operational management of Recreation sites and trails within the Recreation District, actively contributes to the annual strategic and business planning processes; develops and manages district operational budgets; assigns resources; and engages in stakeholder negotiations (including partnership agreements) and relationship-building. The position develops recreation programs, plans, processes and practices which take into consideration local culture and priorities; and fosters optimum and proactive customer and client service, as well as a broader public relations role, while ensuring that BC\xe2\x80\x99s recreation facilities are managed and maintained in accordance with legislation (e.g., Forest and Range Practices Act and Forest Recreation Regulation) , Ministry and Branch objectives, and best practices. The nature and scope of your work will be augmented through your close working relationships with recreation sector groups and individuals who are involved in such activities as camping, hiking, mountain biking, ATV\xe2\x80\x99ing, cross-country and backcountry skiing, snowmobiling, mountain climbing, and exploring. Working in partnership with these groups and individuals is how our team can offer British Columbia residents and visitors the best possible recreation venues and experiences. This position is located in Revelstoke (Columbia \xe2\x80\x93 Shuswap Recreation District). Job Requirements:

  • Undergraduate Degree or higher in a related field, such as Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies, Parks & Recreation, or Geography and 1 year of related experience*; OR
  • Diploma in a related field, such as Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies Parks & Recreation, or Geography and 2 years of related experience*; OR
  • An equivalent combination of related education in a related field, such as Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies, Parks & Recreation, or Geography and 3 years of experience* may be considered.
  • Related experience includes the following:
  • Experience managing or administering all aspects of a recreational program including the operational management of a network of sites and trails.
  • Experience planning, developing, implementing and managing strategic or operational goals, objectives and requirements related to a recreational program including the development and management of an annual budget.
  • Experience building and maintaining collaborative working relationships with a variety of stakeholders (e.g., local governments, recreation clubs, First Nations, commercial recreation industry representatives, law enforcement agencies), preferably with respect to shared interests in recreational areas.
  • Experience in stakeholder and public consultation including, where necessary managing and mitigating conflict.
  • Experience negotiating and managing partnership agreements, service contracts, project proposals and other similar agreements.
  • Experience providing leadership to staff, project teams, contractors, and/or volunteers.
