Job Description


As a crucial member of the Clinical Learning and Simulation Centre, the Standardized Patient Program Manager plays a vital role in providing leadership to the standardized patient program. Reporting directly to the Director of the Clinical Learning and Simulation Centre (CLSC), the Standardized Patient Program Manager is responsible for the organization, planning, implementation, management, and execution of the standardized patient program. The Standardized Patient Program Manager will directly supervise a team of standardized patient educators to ensure that standardized patients are effectively recruited, trained, and scheduled to meet the educational and assessment needs of medical and other healthcare programs. Standardized patients are trained individuals who portray or have specific medical conditions or scenarios to help medical students, healthcare professionals, or researchers practice and improve their clinical skills. This role involves recruiting and training standardized patients, scheduling and ensuring smooth operation of the simulated exercises. This position demands strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and strong communication abilities. The successful applicant will build and foster relationships with Memorial University (MUN) Faculty of Medicine CLSC administration and faculty leadership.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Standardized Patient Program Manager\'s duties include the following:

  • Independently supervise a team of standardized patient educators to recruit and screen potential standardized patients
  • With minimal supervision, be responsible for devising and maintaining faculty development programs for the standardized patient program to ensure that they are up-to-date and relevant
  • Mentor clinical faculty and ensure that they adhere to simulation pedagogy and best practices standards during simulation exercises\' design, delivery, and debriefing stages with standardized patient curricula
  • Mentor standardized patient educators in providing ongoing feedback and evaluation to standardized patients
  • Collaborate with stakeholders within education organizations or healthcare institutions to align standardized patient availability with program needs
  • Maintain a database of standardized patient records, available and performance evaluations
  • Act as a liaison between faculty, clinical educators, stakeholders, and simulation teams regarding standardized patient curricula across various disciplines
  • Continuously seek innovative ways to provide improvement and innovation within the program
  • Maintain professional skills and stay current with national and international advances in simulation pedagogy
  • Implementation of evaluation tools to measure satisfaction and quality with collaborative disciplines
  • Ensure standardized patients comply with scenario objectives during evaluation
  • Gather feedback from both learners and standardized patients to continuously improve and enhance the learning experience
  • Collaborate with various faculties and stakeholders to liaise in implementing a standardized patient curriculum within the CLSC
  • Coordinate and manage the scheduling of standardized patients for various educational activities, examinations or simulations
  • Other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Completion of a graduate degree in a health-related field and/or experience (5+ years) in healthcare education, simulation, process improvement work or program management supplemented by a bachelor\'s degree in a related field including supervisory experience
  • Coursework toward a master\'s degree in a related field would be considered an asset
  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational and time management skills are required
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Excel, is required
  • Demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills in recruiting and screening standardized patients
  • Completion of Certification in Standardized Patient Education would be required within one year of hire
  • Experience in post-secondary education would be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of Learning Management Systems would be considered an asset
  • Attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to work effectively within diverse teams
