The Opportunity:
The Global Security Team is a specialized team dedicated to the security and safety of OpenText employees, products, property, and information.
Based in Waterloo, Ontario and reporting to the Sr. Manager, Security Operations & Risk Programs, the Security Specialist will be responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of holistic security strategies under the Global Security Services & Risk program.

You Are Great At:

  • Assisting with implementation of travel risk, event security, and executive protection policies and procedures, leveraging best practices from previous roles, and using current industry standards.
  • Developing tools and methodologies to assess, mitigate and monitor global risk to OpenText senior executives and business travelers.
  • Providing pre-travel advice and on-the-ground security support to business travelers as required.
  • Providing accurate and timely action plans for complex security and safety issues related to corporate events globally.
  • Responding to security incidents globally, including incidents of terrorism, civil unrest, natural disaster, or criminal which may affect our employees, assets or offices, in order to limit loss and mitigate risk.
  • Developing and implementing global best practices for security training and awareness programs.
  • Conducting and supporting physical security threat and risk assessments using established methodologies to determine security posture and recommend measures necessary to ensure compliance with existing policies, and procedures.
  • Maintaining awareness of new and existing global offices to ensure evolving threats and conditions remain appropriately addressed by the physical security programs.
  • Reviewing security-related problems and taking appropriate measures to ensure compliance, reduce risk and protect the assets of OpenText.
  • Planning and executing approved physical security-related projects.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders and tracking metrics to identify processes and quality improvements.
  • Working with a cross-functional global security team and performing supporting tasks when required.
  • Developing and maintaining positive relationships with domestic and international law enforcement, private sector peers worldwide and internal, external stakeholders in support of program initiatives.
What It Takes:
  • Post-secondary education in an area of study relevant to the position or equivalent experience.
  • Five years of operational security experience in a corporate environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of physical security threat and risk management methodology.
  • Previous experience with executive protection, travel risk, and event security programs, policy, and support.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the physical security discipline, focusing on consulting and operational areas.
  • Ability to develop and maintain security related processes, procedures, and program training.
  • Ability to contribute to other pillars of the physical security program by active collaboration, and support.
  • Familiarity with a Global Security Operations Center and incident response.
  • A positive attitude and ready to tackle tasks related to a fast-growing company.
  • Sound critical thinking with the ability to analyze and solve complex problems.
  • Strong report writing skills.
  • Willingness to work outside normal business hours as needed to support a 24/7 GSOC environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and strong business acumen with good analytical skills and vendor management experience.
  • A service-oriented/customer-driven approach.
  • Professional certification in the security industry desirable.
  • Ability to travel internationally if required to support security services initiatives.
