Our team is integral in maintaining the daily operation of the technical support systems at the mine.The OpportunityWe are currently seeking a Senior Geologist (Casual), Local 2020-05 to join our geology team at our Creighton Mine in our Sudbury Operations. This position is a twelve-month development opportunity and fully covered under the Collective Agreement between Vale and the Local 2020-05 United Steelworkers.The purpose of this role is to provide geological oversight and support for the onsite surface exploration, underground delineation drilling, 3D/geostatistical modelling, and support to the execution team at Creighton Mine 3 Shaft. The successful candidate will work closely with Engineering, Ground Control and Operations to support the mine designs for the Life of Mine Plan.Accountabilities:

  • Follow departmental safety program.
  • Design and execute exploration and definition programs.
  • 3D geological modelling in Datamine/Leapfrog.
  • Weekly and monthly reporting to MTS leadership.
  • Mentor and train execution Geologists in all aspects of geological data collection and reconciliation.
  • Core logging, sampling, and QAQC.
  • Compile and review geological data to create or update and document geological models and mineral resource estimates on occasion.
  • This work includes assessing risk, seeking opportunities and completing mineral resource estimates in compliance with company and legislated resource and reserve reporting standards, including SK-1300, CIM Standards on Mineral Resources and Reserves, Project Delivery System (PDS), and MTS guidelines.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to facilitate integration of mineral resources and mine designs into geological database applications to support grade control practices and Mineral Reserve and Mineral Resource reporting.
  • Work in the Geology department with the Creighton Mine team to provide geological input and support to the Life of Mine Planning (LoMP) process on an ongoing basis.
  • Report and carry out specific accountabilities as assigned by the Chief Mine Geologist.
  • Identify, analyze and recommend opportunities for safety, productivity and cost improvements.
  • Periodic underground travel is required.
Qualifications and Specific Skills:Education: The successful candidate will possess at a minimum, a Geological diploma, B.Sc Geology or B.Sc Geological Engineering.Professional Qualifications: APGOExperience: The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of five years of progressive relevant experience in an underground mining environment.Processes: Advanced understanding of data collection and database management, mineral resource management and reporting system including mineability and dilution, Grade Control, and diamond drill hole layouts. Knowledge of Mining, Milling and Refining Processes.Computer Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office products to include Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook. Demonstrated competency in industry software including: DatamineR StudioRM, Deswik, Leapfrog, and Vulcan).Ability to visualize and interpret 3D geological data for modelling and grade interpolation.Knowledge of Vale geological guidelines and standards. Understand and have knowledge of Geological Systems including: AMGC (All Mines Grade Control), MEBS (Mines Exploration Bore Hole System), M&D (Mineability and Dilution Database), Diamond Drill Hole Layouts.Sudbury Basin Geology knowledge is necessary to be successful in role.What We Offer You
