Our team is focused on converting Exploration Potential and Exploration Targets into mineral resource for future extraction.The OpportunityWe are currently seeking a Fixed Term, Geologist/Sr Geological Technologist to join our In-Mines Exploration Team. This is Fixed Term, 12-month opportunity with the Local 2020-05 membership.A geologist is required to work for the In-Mines Exploration Team focusing on providing core logging and some back-office support to our local mine\xe2\x80\x99s exploration program.Accountabilities:

  • Follow departmental safety program: attend and participate in daily safety line up meetings, monthly safety meetings, required safety training and adhere to site requirements.
  • Support the mine and assist developing the annual 5-Year Diamond Drill Exploration Program.
  • Assist with tactical planning, drill layouts and help with the execute underground and surface drilling campaigns as needed.
  • Support project geologist work to ensure all exploration tasks are performed as scheduled.
  • Potential to assist with MRMR documentation regarding Exploration activities.
  • Provide core logging, sampling, QAQC support at the Frood-Stobie Geoscience Facility.
  • Must be physically capable of handling 300\xe2\x80\x99-1000\xe2\x80\x99 of diamond drill core per day.
  • Prepare diamond drill layouts using Datamine and Deswik software packages as per Vale standard.
  • Collect geological data for the purpose of generating ET and EP mineralized wireframes and generate models for resource calculations.
  • Communicate changes in ore interpretation to engineering and operations as results become available.
  • Monitor progress of exploration drill programs, update and communicate results monthly.
  • Identify, analyze, and recommend opportunities for safety, productivity, and cost improvements.
  • Occasional underground travel will be required to visit diamond drills.
  • The work schedule is Monday to Friday 6:30am-3:00pm on site at the Frood-Stobie Geoscience Facility (excluding recognized holidays).
  • Communicate observed and potential safety hazards to supervision.
  • Research, recommend and implement new projects to improve technological advancements in the work conducted by the In-Mine Exploration team. i.e. Artificial Intelligence.
  • Provide support to In-Mine Exploration Project Geologists.
  • Carry out specific accountabilities as assigned by the Chief Geologist of In-Mine Exploration.
About You:Education: The successful candidate will possess a minimum Geological Technologist Diploma, Preferred B. Sc. Geology or B.Sc. Geological EngineeringExperience: The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of one year experience and is preferred in an underground mine environment.Professional Qualifications: Progressive eligibility for APGO, registered GITProcesses: The ideal candidate will understand and have knowledge of Vale Ontario Operations Geological Systems including: AMGC (All Mines Grade Control), MEBS (Mines Exploration Bore Hole System), LIMS, Diamond Drill Hole Layouts, and M&D (Mineability and Dilution Database). Knowledge of Mining, Milling and Refining Processes.Computer Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office products to include Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint Outlook, and Teams. Demonstrated proficiency in Datamine, Deswik. Seequent (Leapfrog) is an asset.Knowledge of Vale geological guidelines and standards. Understand and have knowledge of Geological Systems including: AMGC (All Mines Grade Control), MEBS (Mines Exploration Bore Hole System), M&D (Mineability and Dilution Database), Diamond Drill Hole Layouts.Sudbury Basin Geology knowledge is necessary to be successful in role.What We Offer You
