Our team is integral in maintaining the daily operation of the Technical support systems at the mine.The OpportunityWe are currently seeking a Fixed Term, Senior Geologist, Local 2020-05 to join our Sudbury Operations. This position is covered under the Collective Agreement between Vale and the Local 2020-05 United Steelworkers. This is a 12 month fixed term opportunity.The purpose of this role is to provide geological support for the Long-Range, Mid-Range and execution team at Coleman mine, with primary focus on long-range modelling and MRMR Management. Work closely with Engineering, Ground Control and Operations to support the mine designs for the Life of Mine Plan.Although previous experience in mining or an industrial setting is considered an asset, we also appreciate that diversity of thought comes from our differences \xe2\x80\x93 and that\xe2\x80\x99s what makes us great!Accountabilities:

  • Follow departmental safety program.
  • Support Long and Mid-range Geology functions at site, with collaboration with the Engineering department and Operations.
  • Long/Mid-range modelling, forecasting, and monthend reporting.
  • Mineability & Dilution and F-Factor reconciliations.
  • Mentor and train execution Geologists in all aspects of geological data collection and reconciliation.
  • Core logging, sampling, and QAQC.
  • Compile and review geological data to create or update and document geological models and mineral resource estimates on occasion.
  • This work includes assessing risk, seeking opportunities and completing mineral resource estimates in compliance with company and legislated resource and reserve reporting standards, including NI 43-101, CIM Standards on Mineral Resources and Reserves, TSE Disclosure Standards, Project Delivery System (PDS), and MTS guidelines.
  • Support Scoping, Pre-Feasibility and Feasibility studies for various ore bodies & projects for Coleman Mine.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to facilitate integration of mineral resources and mine designs into geological database applications in order to support grade control practices and Mineral Reserve and Mineral Resource reporting.
  • Work in the Geology department with the Coleman Mine team to provide geological input and support to the Life of Mine Planning (LoMP) process on an ongoing basis.
  • Carry out specific accountabilities as assigned by the Chief Mine Geologist.
  • Identify, analyze and recommend opportunities for safety, productivity and cost improvements.
  • Periodic underground travel is required.

Sc. Geology or B.Sc. Geological Engineering10 Experience: The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of five years of progressive relevant experience in an underground mining environment.5 Professional Qualifications: Progressive eligibility for APGO, registered GIT5 Processes: The ideal candidate will understand and have knowledge of Vale Ontario Operations Geological Systems including: MEBS (Mines Exploration Bore Hole System), MRM (Mineral Resource Management database and reporting system including Mineability and Dilution), AMGC (All Mines Grade Control), Diamond Drill Hole Layouts.10 Computer Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office products to include Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint Outlook, and Teams. Demonstrated competency in DatamineR StudioRMRequired Competencies (30%):6 Drive for Sustainability - Identify and deal with issues proactively, seizing opportunities that arise in order to accomplish organization objectives. Frequent problem solving using mathematical concepts and numerical equations.
