In doing so the team enables the operations to meet business objectives and achieve outstanding outcomes focused on prioritizing, planning, and delivering on performance improvement areas.The OpportunityWe are currently seeking a Sr. Engineer, Process Safety to join our Health, Safety and Risk North Atlantic Operations team in Sudbury, Ontario at the Copper Cliff Nickel Refinery. This is permanent position. The successful candidate will be a champion of process safety management, this role will focus on helping the Copper Cliff Nickel Refinery improve through risk identification and reduction on established projects or new projects at the plant.This role will support the development and implementation of the necessary management systems to achieve a step change in process safety performance, reduce the catastrophic risks to the business, address the challenges facing our organization in achieving our goal of zero harm. This role will also involve being the leader in the sites Hazard Identification and Risk Analysis (HIRA).As a Process Safety Engineer you will

  • Work to identify risks and problems and work to reduce or eliminate where possible.
  • Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential risks and work to ensure safety regulation compliance.
  • Review safety programs and plans for building of new machinery to find out if all safety needs have been met, as required.
  • Recommend process and product safety features that will reduce employee\xe2\x80\x99s exposure to work hazards.
  • Participate in incident investigations, focusing on root cause and providing recommendations into preventing reoccurrences.
  • Provide risk assessments through the use of risk analysis techniques and tools
  • Maintain and apply knowledge of current policies, regulation and industrial processes.
  • Conduct or coordinate worker training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring and use of safety equipment as required.
  • Increasing overall process safety competencies at the plant through generic and specific training and facilitating hazard analysis and risk assessments (ICAM, 5-why, root cause analysis etc.)
  • Provide guidance to site personnel and management on overall process safety strategy, standards and guidelines and execution.
  • Utilize process/chemical engineering skills to identify issues and designs and controls requiring improvement.
  • Provide technical leadership assistance and monitor and report Process Safety Management (PSM) system performance effectiveness and realign accordingly.
About YouEducation:
  • Professional Engineering Designation in the Province of Ontario.
  • Preferably in chemical or mechanical engineering
Experience:
  • 8-10 years of relevant work experience, including 3 years in Process Safety Management
Skills
  • Understanding of operational site process safety systems and programs
  • Operational experience (specifically oil and gas, nuclear or chemical sectors)
  • Experience with Risk Assessments
  • Experience with Quantitative Risk Assessments considered an asset
  • Experience with Incident investigation tools considered an asset
  • Demonstrated time management, attention to detail, and meticulous analysis is required
  • Able to travel to the field for multiple day trips
  • Strong communication skills are essential
