Members of this teamwork across a variety of engineering functions including planning, ground control, surveying, ventilation, scheduling, infrastructure, and capital coordination.The OpportunityWe are currently seeking a Sr. Engineer, Mining to join our Mines Technical Services Team at our Copper Cliff Mine Complex in Sudbury. This is a permanent position.In this role, you are responsible for designing, planning, scheduling, and budgeting mine operations. You are responsible to consult with other technical staff such as geologists and metallurgical engineers to determine best mining practices and to set goals for the operations department. The MTS Team works collaboratively with peers and cross functionally with all other areas of the mine to complete tasks in their area of accountability.Additionally, in this position, you will:Mid Range Planning:

  • Assemble the 24-month rolling plan, prepare the monthly & quarterly plans.
  • Responsible to compile information and budget capital and operating requirements.
  • Integrating plans with all stakeholders including Integrated Business Planning, Operations, Reliability, Geology including diamond drilling, Ground Control, Seismic Risk Management and Ventilation.
Mine Design:
  • Update stope Designs using Deswik mine design software.
  • Produce underground mine designs using the ore body block models, decide what methods and equipment will be used for accessing and extracting ore and waste material and provide a schedule for the removal of this material.
  • Consult with geologists and engineers about the design, selection, and provision of machines, facilities, and systems for mining, and infrastructure such as access roads, water and power supplies.
  • Update development designs for accessing the ore body and other infrastructure.
  • Ensure that stope requirements are assigned appropriately to allow for the forecasting of consumables.
  • Accountable to ensure required changes to stoping and development plans, due to execution variances or other unforeseen changes, are immediately assessed and put into the plan.
  • Participating in the design, evaluation, and support of underground mining operations.
  • Collect, document, and assess engineering data within the mine to improve efficiency.
General:
  • Provide engineering support to our team of geologists, mining engineers, and technologists.
  • Coordinate with operations to ensure there is proper implementation of the plans.
  • Record mine engineering related information to generate monthly production reports.
  • Ensure mining regulations are followed, including the proper use and care of explosives, and the correct ventilation to allow the removal of dust and gases.
  • Monitor development and production progress.
  • Ensure that mine infrastructure has appropriate design work to support the mine
  • Manage projects such as mine improvement and infrastructure replacement.
  • Establish effective communication channels with both remote and on-site teams.
  • Maintain a focus on safety for the work being implemented in conjunction with MTS Safety Plan, policies and procedures.
About YouEducation:
  • Undergraduate Degree in Mining Engineering or Geological Engineering or
  • P. Eng. is preferred.
  • Post-Secondary diploma in Mining Technology or a related discipline or
Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar position is required.
  • 3 years of underground mining experience is an asset,
  • however EITs with less experience are encouraged to apply.
Skills
  • Underground mine design, mining engineering, scheduling, and high level of understanding of underground mining activities.
  • Knowledge of engineering planning software (Deswik) is an asset.
  • Experience in preparing and managing studies and execution projects.
  • Communication skills and development of concise documents and presentation materials.
  • Preparation of annual budgets, 5-year plans, capital planning and allocation of resources.
  • Knowledge of cash flow modeling techniques and mineral economics is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and familiar with spreadsheet manipulation in Excel.
  • Be creative, not only use past practices but promote new ways of doing things to maximize the value of our mineral resources.
