We are looking for SQL Database Administrators to join our team!

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Lead complex troubleshooting or raised technical issues over a significant population of affected software or equipment.
  • Handle backups, recovery procedures, DBCC utilities, index maintenance job & disk space.
  • Recommend on stored procedure optimization, performance tuning & index tuning.
  • Develop, maintain & report on database health checks.
  • Resolve space management issues like TempDB contention, Data, and log file space issues.
  • Identify and resolve blocking and deadlock issues.
  • Manage database refresh jobs.
  • Works closely with IT project managers, programmers, architects on currency initiatives.
  • Planning, developing, testing and execution of Disaster recovery processes.
  • Champion the culture of reliability mindset by embarking on opportunities to implement self-healing database solutions.
  • Maintain security, compliance, database hardening, encryption standards, audit, and access control frameworks.
  • Be responsible for implementation and maintenance of database setup, installation, configuration & monitoring.
  • Consult, guide & mentor team members.
  • Participate in on-call support rotation including after-hours/weekend duties as required.
Technical Requirements:
  • SQL server 2019, 2017 & 2016 both on prem & Azure (IaaS & PaaS) cloud platforms.
  • High Availability Solution-Clustering & Always On.
  • Database backup/restore and disaster recovery.
  • SQL server Profiler, Extended Events, Query Store and Database Engine Tuning Advisor (DTA) for performance.
  • 24 x7 dedicated support for SQL server production server.
  • Database alerts and monitoring for both on prem and Azure cloud platform.
  • Azure Active Directory & SQL authentication.
  • Migration to Azure cloud including database upgrades from 2016 to 2019.
  • Performance tuning and Query Optimization.
  • Database hardening and security standards like TDE, SSL/TLS and auditing.
  • Database health check, reports, and metrics.
  • Database software (SQL Server) upgrades.
Expert Knowledge in:
  • SQL server patching management.
  • Standard Operating Systems (Unix/Linux/Windows) in a multi-domain environment.
  • Database monitoring tools and technologies (Foglight & NewRelic).
  • Automation of DBA tasks using Power Shell scripts.
  • ITIL process.
  • Database Design principles.
SQL Server Tools:
  • SQL Server Management Studio, Visual Studio, Query Analyzer, Profiler.
  • Performance Monitor, OSQL, DTS, Log Shipping, Server Network Utility, Database Tuning Wizard.
  • Index Tuning Wizard, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, Microsoft Clustering Services (MSCS).
Preferred:
  • Databases: DB2 LUW/ZOS, Postgre SQL, My SQL, No SQL & Oracle
  • Integration to AIOps tool, Moogsoft
Other Experience:
  • BSC Information Systems / Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • 7+ years' experience managing production SQL Server environments.
  • Agile and DevOps principles, test-driven development, continuous integration, and other approaches to accelerate the delivery of new features.
  • Skilled to collaborate and build relationships with Manulife business and risk partners.
  • Having the ability to quickly adjust to newer technologies as required.
  • Certified with multiple disciplines of expertise and actively participate in new trainings as required.
  • Ability to adopt and change with Manulife's vision.
  • Good organizational and problem-solving abilities that enable you to lead through creative abrasion.
  • Good verbal and written communication; able to articulate technical vision, possibilities, and outcomes.
  • Self guided and able to lead smaller groups where required.
  • Good analytical skills, copes with complex situations through deliberate analysis and planning.
