This role is a hybrid work arrangement. Work schedule to be discussed with the hiring Manager according to the guidelines defined by the department.
Your role
Specialist, Finance & Admin provides support to the financial department by managing daily accounting tasks along with supporting the operational and HR teams. The Specialist is a part of a team of professionals working to maintain order and transparency for the Corporation's finances, policies and business practices.
The Specialist is responsible for general accounting functions, including but not limited to, preparing journal entries, assisting with monthly/annual closings, account reconciliation, supporting the Analyst, Advisor (Podcast) and Manager of Budgeting & Internal Reporting, in carrying out the responsibilities of the Finance Dept. Work is subject to limited review and there is wide latitude for independent judgment and decision making within the parameters of the CBC Finance & Administration policy and procedures. Work may involve the coordination of the work of others.
Key Tasks:
Strong knowledge and experience with Collective Agreements and contracts:• Prepare both standard and non-standard freelance contracts in Livelink in accordance with the various collective agreements (including CMG, unaffiliated, WGC, ACTRA, CFM).
• Prepare payment and/or release payments against freelance contract services as well as associated travel and production expenses
• Act as first point of contact for freelancer questions regarding payment; handle reissuing of payments when necessary
• Serve as contract and Livelink expert and provide guidance to managers and producers regarding contracting.
• Analyzes, investigates and interprets financial data to ensure that the books of account and supporting records are complete and accurate.
• Advises management of the results of analyses and where necessary recommends appropriate courses of action.
• Creates financial and management reports to assist both Finance and Non-Finance Managers in the decision making process.
• Assists Analysts in the preparation of planning books and departmental budgets.
• Approves and initiates transactions such as purchase orders, contract payments and journal entries within authorized limits.
• Reviews and validates Radio Travel claims through the TEMS - and independent contractors - liaising with staff and contractors to solve problems as required.
• Audits expenditures, contracts, TEMS claims and ensures adherence to corporate and financial policies.
• Reviews work processes and procedures and recommends improvements.
• Reviews and processes complex transactions such as product and procured contract payments.
• Creates and maintains the necessary and appropriate documentation to support transactions.
• Prepares and uploads data into financial systems, downloads data from various systems for incorporation into databases, reports, etc.
• Provides guidance and advice in following the financial and corporate policies and procedures as well as departmental business practices.
• Assists Analyst, as required, in the preparation and distribution of HR documentation to support new hires, employee changes and departures including contracting, independent questionnaires, payment preparation for independent contractors and contract employees.
• Initiates invoice requests, setup and transfer deferred revenue accounts and deposits.
• Provides clerical support to Analyst, Advisor and Manager within the team.
Qualifications• Background in accounting and / or proven record of financial fundamentals education or experience.
• 3 years related experience in a finance related role.
• Good oral and written communication in the English Language.
• Functional French language skills not required, however would be an asset.
• Strong proficiency and understanding of Windows based software (Microsoft Office) and internet web portals as used by CBC (Citrix, Open Text, ScheduALL, HRforMangers).
• Experience in SAP is an asset including General Ledger, Chart of Accounts, in particular.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to work effectively under daily deadlines.
• Ability to work comfortably and efficiently with senior management, business and operation teams.
• Must be capable of working independently and effectively as a team member.
