JOB PURPOSE:
Reporting to the Manager, IT Architecture, the Solutions Architect will contribute to the success of the IT Architecture program. This position is focused on design concepts and the ability to provide a consultative role to our business. The ideal candidate would have a mix of architect and operations experience and is expected to interface with stakeholders, to define and reach an understanding of their technical requirements. Designing, documenting, sizing the work effort, and determining the needed skills and resources for projects and have strong process, time management and communication skills.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Analyze requirements - Using your experience and knowledge of both the business and systems footprint to analyze new or existing requirements to understand impact on applications and network infrastructure
• Road maps \xe2\x80\x93 Develop & maintain platform road maps for McCain. This will require working collaboratively with our business units, other IT Architects, application support teams, vendor management teams, project teams and Operations teams
• Develop - Our future state architecture for our data centers and network in collaboration with other Technology Services teams through the creation of new technical service offerings for our operations team
• Create - White papers and presentations for senior leadership on new and upcoming technologies and clearly articulate the value our business will receive from implementing these technologies
• Coaching \xe2\x80\x93 Challenge others to develop as leaders, while serving as a role model. Share acquired skills and business/system knowledge with team members through formal and information channels
• Continued learning \xe2\x80\x93 Stay current on industry technologies, trends, and best practices
• Communicate - Effective communication both verbally and written to IS project team members, IS staff and IS management
• Develop and/or review architectural and detailed designs to insure it meats the requirements of McCain
• Assist in the creation of complex solutions both on-premises and in the cloud

MEASURES OF SUCCESS:

Technical, Solution Architecture and Design Skills for the following:

• A clear understanding of core Azure Cloud Computing services
• A detailed understanding of Networking, Databases, Software, APIs, Logic/Function Apps and Servers in the Cloud.
• Experience in designing, building, deploying, operating, and optimizing resources in Azure
• Support cloud migration/implementations
• Detailed understanding of Azure PaaS services
• Understanding of the Agile project management framework
• Experience, from a design perspective in the following Azure areas:
• Azure Networking:

o Virtual Networks (IP Addressing, VNet Peering and Virtual Network Connections)
o Hybrid connectivity (Virtual Hubs, Virtual Network Gateways, site-to-site VPN, ExpressRoute)
o Orchestrating Routing Paths, especially in a Hybrid Cloud including the use of BGP
o Azure Load Balancers
o Azure Bastion Hosts

• Monitor Resources and Log Analytics:

o Use Log Analytics to write a simple query and charts
o Direct resource logs to a centralized log analytics workspace for monitoring/reporting

• Compute:

o Virtual Machines, Virtual Machine Scale Sets
o Virtual Machine cost optimization, performance, and security
o Backup strategies and Fail-over Recovery

• Storage:

o Securing Data against unauthorized access
o Backing Up strategies that allow for efficient restores
o long-term archival storage to maintain corporate compliance

• Application Workloads in Azure:

o Synapse Data Warehouse
o SQL Managed Instances
o Azure API Management Services
o Logic Apps / Function Apps
o Azure Data Factories
o Azure Machine Learning
o Backup strategies, Fail-over Recovery and Disaster Recovery

• Security and Protecting Identities:

o Encrypting data in transit, at rest, and in use
o Protecting Azure Active Directory accounts against compromise
o Reducing the attack surface of all your Azure resources
o Azure Firewalls, Azure VPN Gateways and NVAs
o Azure Application Gateways/Web Application Firewalls
o NSGs & ASGs
o Azure Private Endpoints
o Private DNS Zones
o Azure B2B and B2C

• Azure Costs Controls

o Azure Budgets and Budget Alerts, & Budget Dashboards
o Reporting on Azure Consumption
o Azure Resource reservations

• Azure Resource Deployments

o Terraform to deploy and manage Azure resources, assign RBAC
o Azure DevOps to deploy resources

• Azure DevOps

o Understanding of Azure Boards, Repos, Pipelines, Test Plans and Artifacts
o Create new organizations
o Add users to organizations and projects using best practices

KEY QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCES:

• University degree in Computer Science (or related field of study) or equivalent work experience
• Minimum 5 years of experience as a Solutions Architect with an emphasis on supporting complex environments
• Hands-on experience with complex enterprise systems, networks and technologies
• Accountable to ensure solutions are stable, scalable, capable of providing consistently acceptable performance and reliability
• A track record of implementing and maintaining best practices and standards
• Ability to assess new initiatives to determine work effort and estimate time-to-completion
• Applied knowledge of ITIL and enterprise architecture frameworks such as TOGAF is considered an asset
• Microsoft Azure Certifications such as:

o Microsoft Certified: Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals
o Microsoft Certified: Azure Network Engineer Associate
o Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert
o Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate
o Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert

This position is located at the Global Technology Centre in Florenceville-Bristol, New Brunswick and reports to the Manager, IT Architecture. Florenceville-Bristol is a small community nestled on the bank of the Saint John River and offers a global work environment with a small-town pace of life. Relocation assistance may be available.
