JOB OFFER: Skillshare CoordinatorLiteracy in Action is a volunteer-based network of lifelong learners that strives to keep learning accessible and possible throughout all stages of life. We serve the English-speaking communities in the Estrie region of Quebec's Eastern Townships through one-to-one support (reading, writing & computer use) and community-based programming. We offer all of our services and resources for free with the help of volunteers and inter-professional partnerships.We are looking for an innovative thinker who is interested in hands-on learning approaches to community education and development. The Skillshare Coordinator will create and ensure a sustainable base of engaged citizens in an on-going pandemic context, co-design a Skill-Builders* training and orientation, and foster LIA's network of life-long learners and their diverse skills.*Skill-Builder: a community member of any age curious to learn unique skills in a personalized, community-setting.*Skillsharer: a community member of any age with talents, knowledge, experiences, and skills who are interested in sharing and exchanging with others.Roles and responsibilities:Logistics

  • Work alongside the Executive Director to identify needs within the organization and direct volunteers to fulfill them
  • Attend weekly team meetings
  • Update and maintain volunteer, learner and resource databases
  • Develop systems and strategies to orient, monitor and support Skill-Builders
  • Reach out and support the integration of new Skill-Builders for various services, projects and programs
  • Use Slack, Facebook, Instagram, Google Drive, and/or Airtable platforms
Program Planning
  • Coordinate volunteers, learners, and program participants as needed
  • Co-create and animate training activities with LIA's staff and partners when appropriate
  • Incorporate inclusive teaching and learning styles to training and orientation of neurodivergent participants
  • Collaborate with LIA staff and partners for outreach and publicity
  • Prioritize active learning opportunities and events in collaboration with schools and community organizations
  • Plan volunteer and participant appreciation events
Programming Delivery & Outreach
  • Work with partners to co-facilitate Skill-Builders training and orientation
  • Oversee one-to-one tutoring of essential literacy skills
  • Support skill-builders and skillsharers to organize themselves
  • Create promotional material using Canva or Adobe
  • Create templates and helpful documents to facilitate skill-builders experience
Community Engagement
  • Collaborate and engage with adults from all walks of life, aged 18-85
  • Correspond with the public through email, phone and online community platforms
  • Guide participants to develop and share skills through project-based learning activities
The desired candidate:
  • Is a self-starter and team player
  • Is comfortable with experimental program development
  • Has experience in community building, civic engagement, and volunteering
  • Is flexible with their work schedule (occasional evenings and weekends)
  • Understands the diverse and rich history and needs of the English-speaking population of the Eastern Townships
  • Understands of the diverse ways in which people learn and communicate
  • Draws out people's diverse skill sets with an ability to direct participants into fulfilling roles/responsibilities based on their knowledge and interests
  • Maintains an open and collaborative mindset
  • Is familiar with the not-for-profit sector
  • Has experience with social media platforms and online outreach campaigns
Contract Terms:
Position: September 2022 to July 2023
Flexible schedule: 28hrs/week (though Mondays are mandatory)
Wage to be discussed based on experience.Three-month probationary period.Job Type: Full-timeBenefits:
