Your Role and Responsibilities
The Cloud Site Reliability Engineer is a critical role in the growing and dynamic IBM Business Analytics organization. In this role, you will be responsible for design, development, implementation, and delivery of automation to reduce toil, drive operational efficiency, improve consistency and maintain highest level of security & compliance while working to continually transform our Cloud (and other SaaS) offerings. This includes our Business Analytics offerings (Cognos Analytics, Cognos Controller, and Planning Analytics), ensuring that they are scalable, reliable, and secure.

You will work closely with other engineers, developers, support, and stakeholders to ensure that our Cloud offerings are performing optimally and that our customers have a seamless experience. Ultimately, your performance in this role improves the lives of our engineers and the serviceability of our offerings.

Your Role and Responsibilities
  • Collaborating daily in an agile development environment with a motivated team of experienced cloud engineers to ensure smooth deployment and operation of systems.
  • Act as a technical liaison between customers, delivery teams and support.
  • Develop and maintain automation, configuration management, and monitoring to reduce toil.
  • Design, implement, maintain, and support systems for high availability, scalability, and performance.
  • Evaluating key metrics to identify areas of improvement proactively.
  • Continuously improve infrastructure to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Work with security teams to ensure strict compliance with security standards and best practices.
  • Measuring service Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), providing live data on availability, performance, and system health.
  • Be passionate about learning & growing skills and putting into practice to grow success of the team and our clients. Capture and share best-practice knowledge amongst the public cloud solutions architects and SRE teams.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
  • Passionate about learning new technologies
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; effective and persuasive presentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, ability to handle diverse situations, multiple initiatives and rapidly changing priorities.
  • Knowledge of Site Reliability Engineering practices
  • Experience with Cloud Computing/Architecture (IBM Cloud preferred, AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Scripting and automation (Python preferred, Ansible, PowerShell, Shell an asset)
  • Experience managing multi-user Linux or Windows environments
  • Databases (MongoDB, DB2, SQL Server, Redis)
  • Troubleshooting (Problem, Incident & Root Cause Analysis) skills and attention to detail
  • Proven ability automating complex tasks
  • Mastery of at least one programming language (JavaScript preferred)


Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
  • Hands-on experience with Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with OpenShift, Teraform, Containers, and Orchestration is an asset
  • Familiarity with deployment tools and processes, continuous integration/continuous delivery [CI/CD Pipeline], Jenkins, Travis, Rundeck.
  • Source control and project management (GitHub Enterprise, ZenHub, Jira)
  • Experience developing Software as a Service and cloud based solutions
  • Understanding of Infrastructure as a Service, Infrastructure as Code and related concepts.
  • Redhat Openshift
  • Operators and Operator Lifecycle Management
  • Practiced agile development methodology
  • Observability tooling (Instana, Mezmo [LogDNA], SysDig) and monitoring (SysDig)
  • RDBMS, NoSQL, and key-store databases (DB2, MongoDB, Redis)
  • Networking - Firewalls & Load Balancers (Netscaler, Vyatta, StrongSwan)
  • Additional programming languages (Go, Java, C#, C, C++)
  • Additional scripting languages (Powershell, Shell etc.)
