Job Title Site Reliability Engineer, Lead - Direct Investing
What is the opportunity?
This role will be responsible for the design, development, implementation and support of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) solutions for the RBC Direct Investing (DI) segment on behalf of the Tech Infrastructure organization. The incumbent will need advanced knowledge and experience working in global technology Operations, Engineering and/or Architecture organizations influencing robust and resilient application and infrastructure technology solutions. They will be embedded in the DI Technology area as the Infrastructure Platform SRE partnering with application SRE peers to provide best in class support and direction for this critical line of business.
What will you do?
Provide Site Reliability Engineering thought leadership on a squad dedicated to the DI Technology platform
Assist DI platform teams with critical production support where escalation is required to lead in troubleshooting, service restoration and post-incident learning
Engage product teams from across Tech Infrastructure as required on solution development, incident root cause analysis, vulnerability management and technology roadmap planning as it pertains to DI Technology solutions
Explore new infrastructure capabilities and technologies to drive innovation (including coding and publishing how-to documentation) benefiting the DI business
Ensure availability, uptime and proper compliance management of the DI platform, as per established service level objectives
Help drive SRE adoption and transformation by continuously looking for ways to automate existing operational processes and changing the culture to become a data-driven, software-solution based organization
Development of code-based solutions/scripts/dashboards to solve a wide range of SRE requirements such as improved observability of the DI Technology infrastructure environment (hosting, storage, database, network, middleware etc.) through data mining, merging and reporting on service dashboards (ie: Grafana), workflow orchestration through runbook automation (i.e.: GitHub, Ansible)
Provide project/initiative leadership through planning, design and execution phases for development and deployment of automation solutions to improve efficiency and reduce human error
What do you need to succeed?
Must Have
Advanced knowledge of industry practices, with focus on SRE
Advanced experience in a variety of IT infrastructure platform environments
Excellent communication skills, direct style.
Effective negotiation skills, stakeholder management
Ability to lead small Agile, SRE solution development projects with or without assistance from an assigned Scrum Master
Experience with tools/products such as (Ansible, Moog, PagerDuty, ServiceNow, Grafana, Jira, Confluence, GitHub)
Nice to Have
Knowledge of the Direct Investing business model
People leadership experience in the context of SRE and/or Infrastructure Architecture/Engineering teams
Experience with tools such as (Dynatrace, Elastic, Logstash, Kibana, Prometheus)
Ability to influence at the Director level (unit and other partner units)
