Silp Human Services Counsellor (summer Student)

Job Description

Our SILP program is looking for an enthusiastic student to work as Human Services Counselor for summer placement. If you are passionate about helping others and believe that everyone has potential, we would love to hear from you.

This position is between the months of June to August.



To be eligible, candidate(student) must:Be a resident of New Brunswick (must have lived in New Brunswick for at least 6 months) or a First Nation community in New Brunswick; Be eligible to work in Canada (must have a valid SIN number); Be a full-time university or college student in the current academic year of 2024-2025 AND attending a post-secondary institution full-time in the fall of 2025.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide support with making healthy food choices. Assist clients in making healthy meals. Support with maintaining good personal hygiene. Help clients set goals and help set them on a path to achieve them. Assist in learning independent living skills. Support with medication. Assist with budgeting and banking. Assist with personal shopping (clothing, sundries, family gifts, etc.). Set up appointments with medical professionals as necessary. Plan various outings that pertain to client interests. Help clients to learn new life skills. Provide emotional support as needed. Assisting clients in establishing and maintaining good communication with family. Provide advice/support to clients as needed. Utilize community resources (transportation, activities, medical, etc.). Ensure client safety. Document all data from each visit on client visit sheets. Update health logs for clients after each medical appointment. Keep track of any money that's in client pouches. Constantly update client's financial records and keep track of any money that's in client pouches.

Required skills and qualifications.

Preference will be given to candidates studying in the field of Human Services, Psychology, Social work. First-Aid and CPR certificate is an asset. Clear SD check and criminal record check. Good knowledge of social media. Valid driver's license and use of a personal car daily. Ability/willingness to drive clients. Strong spoken and written English skills are essential. Ability to write reports independently. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to work independently with excellent problem-solving skills. Ability to work a variety of shifts including evenings and weekends. Consistent work performance and attendance. Excellent people skills.

Monday- Friday (Day/Evening)

35 hours/week
