Position Overview
The Program Coordinator is responsible for the development, coordination, and implementation of SHYM programs for young mothers and for their babies and children. This position will be part of a larger team, predominantly working with young mothers who are at-risk of, or are involved with ongoing Child Protection issues. In addition, the Program Coordinator will be responsible for:
The creation of SHYM programs which will include both individual sessions or workshops and more comprehensive outcome-based programming.
Regular liaise with staff and clients to determine and update priority needs and interests.
Conduct necessary research, focus groups, one-on-one meetings, and will access community resources to develop programming.
Organize, purchase supplies, coordinate, plan, and facilitate sessions. This includes meal planning and preparation.
Develop partnerships with other agencies or community programs to share resources, such as curriculums, facilitators, and/or resource materials and will be responsible for communication with program facilitators, volunteers, professionals, and community partners.
Evaluation of SHYM programming and evaluation reports.
Organization and up-keep of the SHYM playroom, program room and assist in all other facility related duties.
Qualifications and Requirements
Undergraduate degree in related field or equivalent experience, understanding of program coordination and evaluation in an outcomes-based framework, strong administrative skills, strong financial management skills, advocacy skills and an ability to work independently and in a team environment, effective interpersonal, and organizational skills, high level of computer literacy, ability to maintain collaborative partnerships internal and external to the SHYM Program. The Program Coordinator will possess experience and expertise in early childhood education, will have experience working with youth/women at risk, will have experience developing life skill and parent support programs and will have a solid understanding of issues related to parent-child attachment.
Special Conditions of Employment
Must have completed First Aid and CPR training, Work Hazard and Safety Training (WHIMIS), NVCI, ASIST, a Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector, and Child Abuse Registry Check. Must have access to a reliable, insured vehicle.
