Established in 1993, Y Newcomer Connections is a leading immigrant settlement center focused on creating connections that will transform our community into a lasting, healthy home for immigrants from around the world and from all walks of life.The OpportunityAs a Settlement Trainer, you will play a crucial role in developing and delivering orientation sessions and workshops tailored to support newcomer clients throughout their settlement journey, both during and after the initial RAP period. You will report to the Employment Supervisor and collaborate with all Newcomer Connections service teams to identify and address knowledge gaps of newcomers who may not be familiar with Canadian cultural conventions, amenities, and rights and responsibilities.Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver orientation materials and workshops for newcomer clients and community members.
  • Deliver the Canada School program and ensuring accuracy of the program.
  • Support the Manager, Newcomer Programming and Employment Supervisor with the evaluation and improvement of Canada School service delivery.
  • Identify barriers to integration, plan training sessions, and design workshops on Canadian life, culture, and seasonal topics (e.g., youth employment, winter in Canada).
  • Develop and deliver workshops for newcomers on various topics, including Canadian laws, budgeting, networking, youth employment, summer recreation, winter in Canada, home heating, and waste management.
  • Employ best practices in training methods (using simulations, case studies, multimedia presentations, special speakers etc.)
  • Maintain current brochures and information materials.
  • Promote sessions, assess and report on session effectiveness, and arrange interpretation as needed.
  • Liaise with RAP and Settlement Counsellors and LINC Instructors, and maintain client records in the CRM database.
  • Report activities in the iCARE database, guide clients to local resources, and submit reports as requested.
Skills and Qualifications
  • A Bachelor\'s Degree, Community College diploma or similar from an accredited institution
  • TESL Certification and experience working with youths (would be considered an asset).
  • Minimum 3 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in a cross-cultural environment.
  • Skilled in training development and delivery, with strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Exceptional ability to communicate with ESL clients;
  • Experience of using a Smartboard or a willingness to undergo training.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Learning Management Systems.
  • Be Adaptable, client-centric, and sensitive to newcomer needs, with strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Fluency in English and other languages are an asset.
  • Employment is contingent on having a clean Criminal Record Check.
