Summary


As our Underground Mine Trainer, you will work closely with the Mine Operations and Health and Safety team to develop training packages, maintain training records, and conduct training for employees and contractors for all underground mobile equipment at our Keno Hill mine site.

The Keno Hill mine, located within the Keno Hill Silver District in Canada\xe2\x80\x99s Yukon Territory. Keno Hill, is one of the highest-grade silver districts in the world, is situated 350 kilometres north of Whitehorse, and lies within the traditional territory of the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyak Dun. It comprises 242 square kilometres (km2) with numerous mineral deposits and more than 35 historical past-producing mine sites. Keno Hill is expected to produce 2.7-3.0 million ounces of silver in 2024 as the mine ramps up production.


The mine is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur d\xe2\x80\x99Alene, Idaho. Established in 1891, Hecla has a rich history as a distinguished and respected precious metals producer. Here\xe2\x80\x99s what you can expect in this role:

  • Conduct training for employees and contractors including but not limited to orientations, mobile equipment, fall arrest, lock out tag out.
  • Maintain adequate training records of all training conducted.
  • Develop training packages for mobile equipment.
  • Participate in the development of standard operating procedures and safety standards.
  • Participate in job hazard analysis and coach employees on hazard assessment and control.
  • Conduct practical training exercises for the emergency response team.
  • Ensure the maintenance of all emergency response equipment.
  • Participate in the development of emergency response procedures.
  • Train all employees on emergency response procedures.
  • Provide strong safety leadership to the operation and work as part of the Health and Safety Team to improve the safety systems and culture.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • You will help to promote a strong environmental culture, promoting and teaching environmentally friendly values and work practices.
  • You will help to foster a strong safety culture, promoting and exemplifying safe work practices throughout the organization.

Qualifications

  • 10 + years of experience working in an underground mine.
  • Train the Trainer accreditation.
  • Knowledge of OHS legislation is a requirement.
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities in a face paced growing work environment.
  • Proven communication skills and ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals and groups.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite \xe2\x80\x93 Word, Excel and Power Point.


Safety, Health, Environmental Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Using and maintaining PPE.
  • Providing suggestions for improving work processes.
  • Assisting Management by supporting change to achieve desired targets.
  • Ensuring that plant and equipment operate within their safe working limits.
  • Ensuring that correct equipment is used for the job.
  • Participating in risk assessment methodology.
  • Participating in safety initiatives.
  • Receiving training and instruction as required.
  • Maintaining good housekeeping standards

Work Environment and Job Schedule




Employees will be frequently exposed to; outside weather conditions, snow conditions; extreme cold, extreme heat, potentially hazardous wildlife; moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; explosives and vibration. The noise level in most work environments is occasionally loud. This position will require you to work a rotating shift of 14 days on and 14 days off and you will be provided camp housing and meals.
