Description:

Course title: ENV 320H1- National Environmental Policy

Course description: Examines ways in which governments develop and implement policy to protect the environment within their borders. Primarily Canada, plus comparisons with other countries. The focus is upon the politics of environmental policy making, which is understood by examining the interests and powers of the relevant state and non-state actors.

Prerequisite: Completion of 8.0 credits including / . Students who do not meet the prerequisites are encouraged to contact the Undergraduate Associate Director.

Estimated Course enrolment: 90 students

Estimated TA support: 90 hours

Class schedule: Lectures, Friday, 1 - 4 pm.

Sessional dates of appointment: January 1, 2023 - April 30, 2023

Salary: Sessional Lecturer I - $8,489.67; Sessional Lecture 1 Long Term - $8,869.25;

Sessional Lecturer II - $9,085.58; Sessional Lecturer III - $9,301.90

These salaries are inclusive of vacation pay. Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum Qualifications: Masters degree with equivalent professional and/or academic experience required. Understanding of the Canadian political system, and of environmental politics and policy-making in Canada, is required.

Preferred Qualifications: PhD degree, relevant academic or professional publications, and previous experience teaching a similar graduate or undergraduate course, are highly desirable.

Duties of course instructor: To teach the course; develop and revise course curriculum; deliver weekly lectures or arrange guest lecturers; arrange required readings; hold office hours; evaluate student performance and supervise TAs.
