FSC360H5 F Evidence, Law and Forensic Science in Canada

RATE OF PAY: Effective September 1, 2023 the minimum hourly rate shall be:$52.26

COURSE: FSC311H5 F Forensic Chemistry

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course will explore the position of forensic science within the law in Canada. The focus will be on the evolution of the acceptance of forensic science in Canadian criminal law and its current position within the legal system. Topics include: Evidence law, expert evidence law, defining the expert, differing standards of legal acceptance for police sciences and others. Important historical documents and legal advancements will be surveyed. [24L, 12S]

NUMBER OF POSITIONS: 1

SIZE OFAPPOINTMENT: 110 hours (total number of assigned hours for all positions is dependent on course enrolment).

APPOINTMENT DATES: September 1, 2023-December 31, 2023

LECTURES: Tuesday 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM

PRACTICALS: None

QUALIFICATIONS:

Successful applicants will have Bachelors degree (completed) in one of the forensic sub discipline fields [ANT, BIO, CHM, PSY] with substantial science course background at the graduate level and a background in Forensic Science and ethics; knowledge of techniques used in forensic scientific research and project management.

DUTIES

Prep and delivery of weekly 2-hour labs and all lab demonstratives; Group in-lab supervision; Assist with marking/grading assignments; Grade entry on Quercus; Oversee, schedule and organize mock trials to ensure smooth execution of trial exercise.
