COURSE: FSC220H5 F Introduction to Forensic Psychology

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course provides an introductory overview of the many ways psychological research and theories (i.e. behavioural science) can deliver useful information in collecting and assessing evidence for criminal investigation, trial, and prevention. Topics may include: eyewitness testimony, deception, criminal profiling, false confession, mental illness, victim trauma, criminal responsibility, risk assessment, serial killing, hate crimes, sexual offending, prejudiced policing, and jury decision-making. The aim of this course is to give students general insight into the various applied specializations of forensic psychologists. [36L]

NUMBER OF POSITIONS: 1

SIZE OFAPPOINTMENT: 75 hours (total number of assigned hours for all positions is dependent on course enrolment).

APPOINTMENT DATES: September 1, 2023-December 31, 2023

LECTURES: Tuesdays 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM, and Wednesdays 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM

PRACTICALS: None

QUALIFICATIONS:

Successful candidates will have Masters degree (completed) in one of the forensic sub discipline fields [ANT, BIO, CHM, PSY] with substantial science course background at the graduate level and a background in Forensic Science and ethics; knowledge of techniques used in forensic scientific research and project management. Preference is given to candidates with previous research, forensic science background, teaching, marking and field experience, and those who have obtained their B.Sc. in Forensic Science at UTM and who work in research labs within the related forensic sub disciplines at UTM.

DUTIES

Prep and delivery of weekly 2-hour labs and all lab demonstratives; Group in-lab supervision; Assist with marking/grading assignments; Grade entry on Quercus; Oversee, schedule and organize mock trials to ensure smooth execution of trial exercise.
