Our Engineering Team in St. John\'s, NL is now looking for a Senior Welding Engineer.

What will you be doing?

  • Providing specialized engineering support for offshore welding of Structural Steel Castings based on subject matter expertise in welding, physical metallurgy, failure analysis and corrosion.
  • Developing Qualification Technical Specifications defining the material standards, grades, testing, associated test drawings, handling, traceability, Certifying Authority involvement, etc.
  • Developing and/or approving welding procedures for heavy welding of Structural Steel Castings in compliance with client and regulatory requirements.
  • Directing and witnessing the welding and testing of Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), as required.
  • Working collaboratively with contractors for development of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), as required, including but not limited to developing welding setup best practices, heat treatment instructions and determining the key welding process control parameters.
  • Advising, performing, or directing design of weldments, including weld materials, preparations, techniques, types, and sizes.
  • Contributing to welding-related failure investigations to identify failure characteristics, failure modes, root causes, contributing factors and corrective actions.
  • Attending team meetings and advising on weld-related design, construction, and fabrication issues including NDE techniques and in-service inspection.
  • Supporting the offshore team in development of welder and NDE-operator competency and training as well as participating in execution planning.
  • Ensuring that proposed welding is aligned with quality assurance requirements, applicable codes and that the necessary design verification activities are carried out in accordance with developed Inspection Test Plans (ITPs).
We think you should have:
  • Engineering degree with Materials, Metallurgical or Mechanical specialization, and registration with PEGNL as a Professional Engineer
  • 15+ years work experience in above areas with manufacturing, fabrication, offshore oil and gas or related industry experience
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge in materials engineering, welding fundamentals, welding metallurgy, welding procedures and specified industry standards / best practices.
  • Sound understanding of fracture mechanics including but not limited to Crack Tip Opening Displacement (CTOD) Testing and weld failure (flaw) analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of corrosion engineering and mitigation.
  • Strong knowledge of advanced materials analytical methods.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tactfully communicate with team members, internal stakeholders, and third-parties.
  • Good working knowledge of VT/MT/PT/RT and UT NDE methods.
