Wood is seeking an experienced Telecommunications Engineer in Calgary, AB to join our busy and growing Oil & Gas Canada team due to growth in our business!

Please note this role will work our standard office hybrid work schedule.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assigned as working Lead on assigned project.
  • Assures compliance with Engineering Procedures and quality control standards
  • Monitors the performance of Telecom Engineering on assigned project including general execution, management of schedule/key milestones, budget and EVM reporting
  • Participates in project audits (quality and technical)
  • Development of estimates for engineering work.
  • Interfacing with various engineering disciplines and suppliers.
  • Periodic Site visits (day trips) as deemed necessary by the project
Project Execution which may include:
  • Responsible for preparing engineering Design Philosophies, specifications and engineering work packages
  • Development of Telecommunication deliverables such as;
  • Wiring diagrams (Fibre, ACS, PAGA, CCTV, BLAN/VOIP), device location layouts, schematics and block diagrams, calculations, data sheets, cabinet layouts, cable schedules and BOM\xe2\x80\x99s
  • Reviewing project documents for scope, presentation and technical accuracy.
  • Plan, coordinate and prepare Material Requisitions, Technical Bid Evaluations and award recommendations for various equipment within Telecoms
  • Have frequent contact with vendors, and internal staff
  • Providing technical support in SAT/FAT\xe2\x80\x99s
  • Working with communication systems in Power utility environment, including Microwave Radio, Fibre Optics, TCP/IP, MPLS, High Voltage Entrance Protection and Power Line Carrier communication
  • Proven knowledge of SONET/SDH/DWDM, PDH, TDM, Microwave radio, fibre optic, WIMAX, Ethernet layer 2 and 3 protocols, TCP/IP/MPLS networks
Suitable candidate must have experience with the following systems from an Oil and Gas, Mining or LNG project perspective;
  • Fibre Optic Networks
  • Structured Cabling (SCS/OSP/ISP) for commercial and industrial facilities
  • Telecom Equipment/Cabinets Design and Layout
  • Closed Circuit Television Systems (CCTV)
  • Security and Access Control Systems
  • Public Address & General Alarm System (PAGA)
  • BLAN/VOIP and LAN/WLAN
Skills / Qualifications
  • Degree or Diploma in Telecommunication Systems from an accredited University or College.
  • Minimum of 10 + yrs. Industry experience (Oil and Gas)
  • Experience in the oil and gas sector is preferred (SAGD/Mining, midstream, upgrading, LNG)
  • Have current knowledge of industry and regulatory standards and codes
  • Ability to problem-solve effectively
  • Has the ability to manage multiple ongoing projects
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external clients on a technical and interpersonal level
