Senior Project Manager, Transportation

British Columbia, Canada

Job Description

The Opportunity
Are you a seasoned project wrangler who knows their way around a transportation project? Can you keep multiple teams, timelines, and interest-holders aligned without losing your cool, or your sense of humour? Do you get a sense of joy from Gantt charts and well-organized meetings?
If so, we've got the opportunity for you!
We're looking for a Senior Project Manager to join our growing Project Management Division. In this role, you'll lead complex transportation design and construction projects as the Owner's Representative and a trusted advisor to our clients. You'll collaborate with a supportive, high-performing team, help shape the future of our business, and mentor the next generation of project management talent. If you bring deep experience, strong leadership, and a passion for turning complex challenges into smooth-running success stories, especially in transportation infrastructure for government clients, we'd love to hear from you.
With offices across British Columbia, this role offers the flexibility to work from the location that suits you best, while still being part of a connected, collaborative (and hilarious) team.
Why This Role Might Be a Great Match For You

  • You're passionate about building better communities, whether it's improving how people move, commute, or connect, and you want your work to leave a lasting impact (no pressure!).
  • You're a well-seasoned project manager who's seen a few detours, and you know how to guide complex projects from vision to ribbon-cutting while keeping the client off the nightly news.
  • You thrive in a team environment and are excited to collaborate with a dynamic group of professionals, mentoring, motivating, and helping take the team to new heights.
What You'll Do
  • Work with McElhanney clients, internal and external, with a focus on Owner's Representation for transportation infrastructure.
  • Lead the full project delivery lifecycle, navigating permits, policies and interest-holder expectations.
  • Drive business development by preparing proposals and building strong relationships with current and prospective clients.
  • Facilitate effective project team meetings and implement project execution plans.
  • Mentor and support project managers, contract managers, and administrators to foster growth and collaboration.
  • Oversee quality processes while proactively identifying, analyzing, and mitigating project risks.
  • Coordinate and lead engagement with the public, Indigenous Groups, and other interested parties on behalf of our clients.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, client staff, utilities, and interest-holders to achieve project goals.
  • Occasional short-term travel as needed.
What You'll Bring
  • A degree or diploma in a related field, such as Business Administration, Engineering, Construction Management, or other from an accredited institution.
  • 12+ years of related project management experience, including managing design and construction projects, is required.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills; ability to build and manage relationships with numerous clients, consultants, interested parties and Indigenous Groups while respecting customs and culture.
  • PMP or other PMI certification is an asset.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to balance office and site work.
What Can We Offer You?
The salary range for this position is $128,000 - $157,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual's education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
  • Work-Life Harmony: Balance your personal and professional commitments. Flexible hours to fit your lifestyle.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Maternity and parental leave top up program, health and dental coverage, RRSP matching, and Employee & Family Assistance Program.
  • Safe & Inclusive Workplace: A culture of respect and inclusion for all.
  • Compensation: Attractive total compensation package including a generous bonus plan and share ownership potential.
  • Professional Development: Reimbursement for dues, educational assistance, mentorship program, workshops, and committee involvement.
  • Career Progression: Support and mentorship to shape a career path that fits your goals.
This role is designated as a position.
