Summary

As the Senior Project Accountant you will be an Individual contributor working under the supervision of the Accounting Manager. In this role you are responsible for developing a project-based discipline at STEMCELL and for all aspects of STEMCELL\xc3\xa2\xc2\x80\xc2\x99s project-related accounting and reporting. This includes working consultatively with key business stakeholders to successfully deliver projects on time, understanding business or project change needs, assessing the impact of those changes to the project costs, and analyzing and reporting on project cost variances. In addition, this position is required to lead, train, and mentor Project Accountant(s) and establish project accounting procedures and policies.



Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for the end-to-end process related to projects (including the continued refinement and development of a reporting tool and project-related KPIs), and review of project details to ensure accounting treatments are in accordance with ASPE

Serve as a key finance partner for the Project Management team in responding to various queries regarding project costs, payment status, and budget variances

Design and maintain project related master data in our ERP system that align with business needs, STEMCELL\xc3\xa2\xc2\x80\xc2\x99s accounting procedures, and local regulations during project cycle from project initiation to project close out

Maintain project-related documentation and requirements including contracts, modifications, holdbacks, approvals, LOC etc. Spot, investigate, and report on project variances and budget status to senior management and project stakeholders; suggest ways to improve efficiency on project spending

Monitor and review all project transactions, costs and related administration for accuracy and completeness; ensure project cost effectiveness and profitability are maximized. Identify areas of potential project gross margin improvement; ensure accurate recovery of all costs

Knowledge and Responsibilities

Bachelor\xc3\xa2\xc2\x80\xc2\x99s degree in Commerce, Business Administration or a related field, CPA (CA, CMA, or CGA) required, plus 6+ years of experience in project accounting in a manufacturing or similar industrial environment; biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry experience is an asset.

Experience leading, coaching, and providing direct management to a team as well as experience reporting to government agencies is considered an asset.\xc3\x82

Advanced proficiency using MS Office, specifically Excel including use of pivot tables and Google Suites.\xc3\x82

Ability to think strategically, analytically and conceptually and collaborate cross functionally to solve complex problems effectively and ensure smooth execution of solutions.\xc3\x82

Detail-oriented with a strong work ethic, good tolerance for ambiguity and ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities and deadlines in a fast paced environment.

Demonstrated experience building strong relationships with senior management, external providers, business partners, stakeholders, etc. with the ability to strategically partner cross-functionally and globally.
