Reporting to Finance Business Manager, the Senior Project Accountant role is responsible for providing financial support related to all aspects of the IFRS accounting cycle including financial reporting to management and corporate stakeholders, and oversight on corporate financial compliance, policies, and procedures. This role will also facilitate any auditing conducted by third parties to ensure effective resolution and swift closure of auditing activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct supervision of the General Accountant for invoicing and client reporting
  • Manage contract accounting by tracking contract billing versus schedule and working with the Finance Business Manager and other executives to establish an appropriate methodology of revenue recognition allocation for each client in accordance with IFRS.
  • Conduct financial analysis of contracts and assist the department managers by providing revenue/margin analysis on customers, projects, and products.
  • Approve all new customer contract information loaded in the eLIMS system by the Project Management team.
  • Perform all final client contract reconciliations, including cancellations.
  • Assist the Finance Business Manager at month end in performing journal entries.
  • Ensure that inventory materials in operations are aligned with material costs processed in the Accounts Payable system, and ensure any pass-through costs are specifically permitted for invoicing.
  • Complete select annual working paper reconciliations for external auditors, related to contracts, invoicing, reconciliations and revenue recognition; this will involve having meetings to present supporting documents and evidence.
  • Provide leadership, coaching and technical advice, recommendations for continuous improvements and ensure consistent application and compliance on the processes, systems and reporting that impacts finance and reporting.
  • Bi-weekly review of any past due receivables, and contact clients to expedite timely payments.
  • Ensure all activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Follow Environmental, Health and Safety rules/regulations and immediately report any workplace injuries or accidents.
  • Adhere to the policies and guidelines set out in the Alphora Employee Handbook
  • Work harmoniously with all fellow employees
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL
  • Degree in Finance or Accounting
  • CPA designation mandatory
JOB-RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
  • Experience reviewing contracts (finance-related sections) - preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as an Accountant or Analyst
  • 2-3 years of supervisory experience
  • Experience with full accounting cycle
  • MS Dynamics Great Plains (an asset)
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Some knowledge of IFRS
  • Audit and/or related support experience
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivots, lookups, etc.)
  • Highly organized and proactive
  • Clear, concise, and professional communication skills

  • Demonstrated team player and customer service centric
