Summary
Reporting to the Head of Marketing this role is responsible for creation and execution of our innovation agenda as we continue to build affinity for our brands and grow our business across cannabis categories/formats. The successful candidate will partner internally with R&D, marketing, sales, operations, regulatory and other departments to ensure we are positioned through the value chain as one of the top cannabis companies in Canada.

Responsibilities:

  • Innovation strategy and pipeline: Champion the creation and validation of a robust pipeline of innovation ideas designed against meaningful consumer needs including the development of new far-out innovation platforms.
  • Partner with consumer insights and business intelligence: Develop and implement a reinvigorated approach to consumer research to inform a robust innovation pipeline including conducting sensory tests to validate. Partner with Category Insights to perform situation assessments, assess category white space and incorporate the customer viewpoint in the innovation strategy.
  • Innovation customer sell-in: Support development of the selling story in close collaboration with internal sales organization to influence customer sell-in across all channels.
  • Build a culture of innovation: Teach, help energize and build fluency in the innovation process with the Marketing, PMO, Ops, Supply Chain, BI and procurement teams in addition to championing a culture of innovation with the broader organization.
  • Analytics and continuous improvement: Partner with Business Intelligence to scorecard innovation performance and build a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Lead stage gate innovation approach: Lead both innovation approach and governance in close conjunction with Project Management to continuously improve innovation processes, tools and metrics.
  • Innovation transition: Alignment and effective transition of projects from Innovation team leadership to core marketing team as the innovation is launched in market. Innovations within brands happen within the defined brand governance.
  • Annual planning process: Lead the annual innovation planning process ensuring innovation goals are realized and the long-term pipeline is robust.

Key Attributes
  • Consumer and Commercial Acumen - Solid understanding of key drivers of marketing, brand management, and the P&L and ability to leverage them to identify and execute changes to move the business forward. The ability to navigate ambiguity and transform it into clarity for the organization. This includes having the ability to identify all relevant information (including data from numerous tools) to drive to meaningful insights. General Manager mindset with a bias towards delighting consumers. Able to stay focused on driving key business priorities in a dynamic business environment.
  • Leadership, Influence and Communication \xe2\x80\x93 The ability to develop and sell-in business case plans for innovation and commercialization ideas. Strong relationship building skills with a well-developed \xe2\x80\x9cpeople interaction\xe2\x80\x9d skillset to successfully navigate and influence a matrixed organization. Able to effectively communicate consistently with a variety of audiences to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Strong Project Management Skills- Experience managing multiple priorities and large business critical projects with timeliness and in collaboration with a strong cross-functional team (both internal and external team members)
  • Agility & Effectiveness- Skilled in mobilizing and managing teams to achieve commercial objectives. A strategic thinker who will roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty, and who can be creative within constraints.
  • Critical Thinking, Insights & Strategic Leadership - Big picture thinking with an ability to clearly articulate a strategic direction, justified with sound fact-based rationale through insight and analysis.
  • Personal Drive - Must be a self-starter with an ownership mindset; passionate, proactive and performance driven, with a bias for action.

Qualifications
  • 5-7 years in Innovation and/or relevant Brand Management experience in the CPG industry.; experience leading people
  • Experience partnering with Consumer Insights and leveraging consumer research (Consumer segmentation, Innovation Concepts, Innovation tracking etc.) to build and optimize innovation strategies
  • Relevant experience with Stage Gate innovation processes and drafting compelling business cases to rally the organization around new and far-out strategic innovation platforms.
  • Experience with partnering with operations and understanding of production to pilot and commercialize new innovations (i.e. manufacturing process, raw materials required, costing, feasibility of plans, etc.) and drive the work forward with cross-functional teams.
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree and a track record of developing and launching successful product innovations and leading change in a CPG environment.
  • Experience in the cannabis industry is considered an asset. Experience in the Bev/Alcohol, Confectionary and/or Snacking industries is also desired
