The Senior Human Resources & Employee Relations Manager oversees the strategic elements of the Human Resources and Employee Relations landscape at Sephora Canada. The role will strategically evaluate and provide direction to the organization with a focus on driving ownership and accountability towards an exceptional employee experience.

The Senior HR & ER Manager will lead the implementation of the Retention strategy for the Field, emphasizing Culture, Development & Engagement. This includes optimizing talent capabilities to enhance the internal employee experience and developing a high-performing field HR team with a focus on strategic capability and client satisfaction. They possess expertise in workplace mediation, negotiations, conflict resolution, and managing sensitive matters. Collaborating with the People Community, they offer expert advice aligned with Sephora\'s goals, effective process management, and fostering relationships among employees. They provide direction for Canadian operations, ensuring compliance with labour laws and practices. Responsibilities include managing multiple projects, contributing to HR team strategy, addressing performance issues, complaints, grievances, and terminations, maintaining HR policies, ensuring consistency, and reporting on HR performance. They offer guidance on complex cases to management.

WHAT YOU\'LL DO:

General:

  • Execute employee experience and employee relations strategies with precision.
  • Drive innovative field people strategies to optimize employee satisfaction.
  • Lead, develop, and inspire the field HR team.
  • Establish continuity, consistency, and efficiency in field HR practices.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to streamline processes in a complex employee environment.
  • Collaborate as a key member of the negotiation team, crafting effective strategies and reviewing collective agreement language.
  • Educate and support management on negotiated contract changes and implementation.
  • Lead investigations into employee relations and grievances, providing expert guidance on collective agreement interpretation.
  • Manage termination and complex employee relations cases, guiding HR teams and managers through the process.
  • Handle the investigation and negotiation strategies for any dispute. Manage the preparation of cases for negotiation of agreement, mediation or arbitration and ensure settlements or court orders are followed and implemented correctly.
  • Provide expert advice to the HR team on specific employee situations and ensure consistent application of collective agreement and policy requirements.
  • Deliver strategic updates to executive management on labour and employee relations and issues based on qualitative and quantitative trends.
  • Maintain expertise in labour relations literature, legislation, and industry trends.
  • Assess the impact of policy and program changes on labour and employee relations.
  • Conduct business assessments to pinpoint employee relations trends and drive action among field leaders.
Policy Review and Development:
  • Responsible for developing new policies or revising existing policies where provisions require.
  • Identify requirements for new or revised policies by analyzing the implication of changes to HR legislation in Canada and in the regions, identifying harmonization opportunities with the collective agreement where possible and gaining an understanding of the working environment and challenges.
  • Carry out research, consulting with management, non-represented staff and union representatives to ensure that stakeholder opinions and operational requirements are taken into account.
  • Prepare written draft HR policies and revise those written by functional experts and coordinate consultations with various stakeholders in the organization, including HR Managers and other stakeholders.
  • Educate managers and HR community on the application of the collective agreement and various HR policies to ensure a consistent application.
WHAT YOU\'LL BRING:
  • Degree in Human Resource Management.
  • 3-5 years of honed expertise in crafting policies and processes that shape our vibrant culture.
  • Masterful negotiator and conflict resolver, fostering harmony in our diverse community.
  • 2-3 years of experience using your analytical skills to deliver insights that drive action.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and the ability to transforms vast data into meaningful findings.
  • You\'re technically savvy and have experience using Excel to manipulate data extracted from databases.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities seamlessly in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
  • Exemplary commitment to upholding the utmost integrity when handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • Ready to jet set to our retail stores and embody the Sephora experience, up to 50% of the time.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, bringing energy and enthusiasm to every interaction and presentation.
  • You have an entrepreneurial spirit, thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, and relish in working collaboratively with cross-functional partners

  • Fluency in French (written and spoken) is considered an asset.
