Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL) is hiring Senior Manager Fertilizer on a permanent full-time basis located in Saskatoon, SK, Regina, SK, Calgary, AB, Edmonton, AB, or Winnipeg, MB.

What you'll do:

You will be responsible for establishing and clearly articulating the mid to long-term (2-3 year) vision and strategies for the Fertilizer business. You will set the direction and provide leadership and support to the Fertilizer team with the objective of delivering value to the CRS and increasing market share in Western Canada in a profitable and sustainable manner.

Strategy and Program Development

  • You will facilitate growth and business development in any fertilizer-related projects/initiatives by providing subject matter expertise and conducting financial/SWOT analysis including long-term estimations of sales growth, margins, inventory turns, and capital expenditures.
  • You will research, analyze, and identify current business gaps/future opportunities for the organization on behalf of Fertilizer Department.
  • You will develop and present business cases to the Director and AVP for new business development decisions.
  • You will analyze and recommend opportunities to invest in capital programs, alliances and mergers/acquisitions for the Fertilizer Department, and monitor and report on results to ensure objectives are being accomplished.
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Yu will direct the team in delivering product offers, developing and launching Local Co-op marketing programs and training functions in order to increase knowledge at Local Co- op and to achieve financial targets.
  • You will engage with Ag Solutions Commodity Teams in joint meetings presentations where beneficial for commodities.
  • You will meet regularly with key suppliers to review/negotiate agreements (supply, logistics, margin, etc.) in an effort to maximize long-term financial success and sustainability.
  • You will travel periodically with the Key Account Managers on Local Co-op visits. You will also visit Fertilizer Terminals to provide leadership and guidance, inspect facilities and meet with employees to interact and gather feedback, information and to better inform short- and long-term planning and decision-making.
  • You will attend industry events (Canadian Fertilizer Institute Conferences) to stay current with new products and technologies. You will also keep local Co-ops current on new products and technologies.
  • You will conduct presentations to internal employees (ongoing), Local Co-ops, and suppliers to communicate issues and opportunities facing the industry as well as exciting new department initiatives.
  • You will promote the merits of centralized procurement and distribution to the Local Co-ops, FCL employees, and industry participants to ensure their continued support.
Financials
  • You will manage, monitor, approve and execute fertilizer purchases within Fertilizer Procurement and Risk Management Policy guidelines destined for an FCL terminal or third-party storage location(s) as well as monitor the resulting inventory positions risk.
  • You will be responsible for identifying buying opportunities, executing the purchase, and monitoring/tracking the in-bound delivery of the product to its warehouse destination.
  • You will prepare and present the annual budget including sales, margin, expenses, inventory and capital expenditure.
Leadership and Employee Development
  • You will provide leadership and coaching (through ongoing feedback as well as formalized performance reviews) to direct and indirect reports.
  • You will collaborate with Human Resources to formulate a succession plan, and establish/implement training plans for employees.

  • You have a minimum of 8+ years of relevant and progressively responsible experience in agriculture management (a combination of relevant education and experience may be considered)
