The Challenge Reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer (CAO), The Senior Manager, Communications and Events will lead the following areas of work within the organization, with the help of a direct report: \xc2\xb7 With strategic oversight from the ELT, lead all marketing, advertising, and communications functions. \xc2\xb7 Lead and grow the annual fund and lead major events. \xc2\xb7 Act as the conduit to the BGC Canada advancement team. \xc2\xb7 Provide oversight of cause-marketing and other annual fund fundraising initiatives. \xc2\xb7 Contribute to the direction of the department and advise on industry best practices. \xc2\xb7 Provide expertise and serve as a role model for colleagues relative to best practices for relationship development and management. \xc2\xb7 Manage 1 direct report \xc2\xb7 Be passionate about the role and mission of BGCO. QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Exceptional communications skills in English.
  • Demonstrated experience developing meaningful relationships with people from all walks of life.
  • Advocate for children and youth, and passion for communications and events as part of a dedicated, donor centered team.
  • Self-directed, motivated and a proactive thinker with an action-oriented mindset.
  • Flexible, adaptable and tolerant of ambiguity with the ability to excel in an evolving organization.
  • Highly analytical and detail-oriented with superior time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Work well within a team structure.
  • Actively committed to the principles of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, and a demonstrated ability to learn new software applications efficiently.
\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of Abila or other fundraising databases is an asset.
  • Ability to work within a flexible schedule, including travel and occasional weekends and evenings.
  • Adept at conflict resolution and problem solving.
  • Related university degree or comparable combination of education and work experience.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the needs and workings of TV, print, on-line and radio media in regional and local levels.
  • Strong understanding of current and emerging social media channels and the relevance of digital/social channels to media and stakeholder relations.
  • Experience with written appeals, annual reports, press releases and other communications material.

WORKING CONDITIONS The majority of the work is performed in an environment that is mostly, clean and comfortable. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision on a computer screen for a large part of the working day. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
