Senior Legal Counsel

We are ready to take this game to the next level and need a passionate Senior Legal Counsel to provide strategic and technical legal advice, counsel and representation to the land-based gaming and charitable gaming lines of business and the corporate procurement department. This position requires an individual who can effectively provide business-oriented legal advice that is sensitive to the needs of a public agency accountable to a diverse group of stakeholders from across the province.
YOUR ROLE IN THE GAME
Reporting to the Senior Managing Counsel, you will be empowered to:
Assist with the implementation of long-term contracts with private sector operators under OLG's Land-Based Gaming Modernization Program
Provide legal counsel and advice regarding the land-based gaming and charitable gaming contracts, including contract interpretation, risk mitigation and claims/dispute resolution
Draft contract amendments, waivers and other contract and ancillary documentation
Provide legal support and legal strategy to OLG contract management teams responsible for management of private sector operators, including review of correspondence, notices, presentation decks, briefing notes etc.
Support due diligence in regard to private operators' financing arrangements and change in control from time to time
Draft template contracts and procurement documents (such as RFPs, RFPQs, etc.) and provide internal training
Provide legal advice to the Procurement department regarding specific procurements and the obligations under applicable trade agreements and policies
Provide legal advice and memoranda in the following areas of law: contracts (such as leases, operating agreements, revenue-sharing agreements, confidentiality agreements, etc.), legislation related to land-based gaming (such as the Gaming Control Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, French Language Services Act, Criminal Code) and public procurement
Work cooperatively and effectively with other corporate teams within the organization, including Corporate Compliance, Risk and Internal Audit, Corporate Affairs, Privacy and Finance
Mitigate legal, financial, and business risks through early identification and collaboration with internal teams to find creative solutions
Review external communications regarding OLG's commercial contracts
Review business cases for new casino developments and provides legal advice and monitoring in respect of municipal approval processes and appeals
Oversee legal assessments for Indigenous community duty to consult obligations in regard to various land-based gaming activities, such as casino development
WHAT YOU NEED TO PLAY
Work Experience: a minimum of four (4) years of practice in a legal department of a large commercial organization, government agency, or a large law firm. In-house counsel experience is an asset.
Education: LLB and/or JD law degree from a recognized university. Broad knowledge and experience in the legal areas outlined above.

Demonstrated ability to make 'best informed decisions' with partial information and the ability to think outside of accepted parameters. Superior interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to collaboratively work with superiors and colleagues in a style that reflects OLG's values of integrity, respect and accountability. Facilitates the success of others through appropriate guidance and feedback. Enthusiastically supports a team environment, sharing critical information and contributing to achieving team and organizational goals. Initiates and develops working relationships by sharing information and ideas and engaging in open dialogue. Demonstrated advanced conflict resolution and negotiation skills to collaboratively solve legal issues. Flexible working style that is responsive to an environment in constant flux with competing and unpredictable priorities. Possesses a solid understanding that work processes and roles are not static and is open to new ways of doing things. Exceptional organizational and project management skills. Very strong written, oral and presentation skills. Completely computer literate.
