How will you contribute?
Under the direction of the Manager of Financial Services, the Senior Financial Officer advocates sound financial management policies and practices while providing advice on Senate and central agency policies. Daily tasks include supervising the processing of accounts payable and accounts receivable while establishing work plans, assigning work and assessing employee performance. The SFO also conceives and prepares a wide variety of financial information while overseeing financial systems. Additionally, the incumbent will have the responsibility of conducting cost-benefit and trend analysis, planning and budgeting, as well as resource allocation.

The general public to staff one (1) indeterminate full-time position in the Finance and Procurement Directorate.
This selection process may be used to staff determinate or indeterminate positions at the same level with similar requirements.

Prerequisites

  • University degree with specialization in accounting, finance, business administration, commerce or economics, or eligibility for a recognized professional accounting designation; OR an acceptable combination of education, training and experience;
  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years experience in accounting operations;
  • A previous experience on Parliament Hill is an asset;
  • Experience in providing functional guidance to various stakeholders;
  • Experience in analyzing financial transactions to ensure compliance with policies and accounting standards;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting concepts, and trend analysis;
  • Good knowledge of Senator's Office Management Policy (SOMP);
  • Knowledge of the techniques and processes supporting different types of financial transactions and the system linkages with government central systems (e.g. PSPC's Receiver General General Ledger (RGGL) and the Standard Payment System (SPS);
  • Ability to perform financial reconciliations;
  • Ability to plan, organize and establish priorities;
  • Experience using an Integrated Finance and Materiel System such as UNIT4, SAP, FreeBlance and the Receiver General's Payment Systems is considered an asset.
