Senior Estimator
Our client is looking for a Senior Estimator to join their team in Calgary. The successful candidate will assist the Senior Estimating Manager in the management of tenders, contracts, purchase orders, budgets and other duties relating to the estimating department.Your success will be defined by your ability to:

  • Review preliminary construction drawings to identify potential efficiencies.
  • Prequalify trades and suppliers to ensure competency. Build and manage the trade lists for each project.
  • Create bid packages which includes:
  • Perform quantity takeoffs
  • Compile tender drawings.
  • Create/modify project-specific scopes of work.
  • Manage of tender pricing process which includes:
  • Send tender packages.
  • Resolve technical questions and clarify the scope of work for trades; provide additional information, as required.
  • Follow up to ensure pricing is turned around promptly.
  • Conduct a detailed evaluation of quotes to ensure pricing is correct.
  • Conduct a detailed review of quotes to ensure that pricing includes everything required in the scope of work.
  • Negotiate to get the best possible pricing.
  • Create a tender analysis, recommending the lowest qualified trade, for review/approval by the Senior Estimating Manager and VP of Construction.
  • Manage contracts (Contract compilation, administration, scanning/saving contract documents and distribution of final contracts to applicable trades).
  • Assist the Senior Estimating Manager with analyzing historical data to create budgets for future projects
Your strengths include:
  • 5+ years of experience in an estimating role
  • Previous experience working for a home builder or general contractor
  • Previous experience estimating on wood-frame construction projects; multi-family projects would be preferred
  • Strong communication skills (written & verbal).
  • Strong analytical abilities.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills.
  • Effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Plan reading & technical knowledge.
  • Strong ability to develop interpersonal relationships with internal staff and external trades/suppliers.
