The opportunity

The Senior Analyst, Renewable Energy Contracts reports to the Supervisor, Renewable Energy Contracts who has primary responsibility for coordinating and managing all IESO contract obligations and optimizing processes relating to renewable energy contracts. The IESO has executed over 30,000 renewable energy contracts totaling over 9,500 MW. The Senior Analyst, Renewable Energy Contracts will have primary responsibility administering standard offer programs and assist in contract administration and be directly accountable for the design of processes and procedures to manage the IESO's renewable contract obligations, including but not limited to: facilitating assignments and change of control, information management, administration of completion and performance securities, effective issues management, and litigation management.

What you'll do

  • Effectively manage contract issues by meeting with IESO staff, Crown representatives, respective contract counterparties, and when applicable, external agencies/organizations (e.g., Local Distribution Companies, etc.)
  • Administer all aspects of renewable energy contracts
  • Review and analyze Supplier communications and requests, including proposed change of control and assignment requests
  • Interface with stakeholders relating to any changes or amendments that may be proposed and finalized for renewable energy contracts
  • Complete daily updates to and maintain Contract Management databases ensuring information is current and make optimize database structure as needed
  • Design and produce reports with a high level of accuracy, routinely and on an adhoc basis
  • Conduct financial analysis based off of historical settlement data
  • Advise on systems and recommend changes in project development tools to support the successful management of renewable energy contracts
  • Assist with communications and queries from the IT Team related to Contract Management databases
  • Design and implement processes and procedures to manage contractual obligations
  • Ensure all IESO renewable contract obligations are fulfilled in accordance with approved processes
  • Provide guidance, advice and support to ensure that contract management processes are effective, efficient, expeditious, and ethical and provides the best possible value to the IESO, Ontario's power system, and Ontario's ratepayers
  • Provide resolution of major issues, particularly those that cross projects or have broad ramifications
  • Act as the point of contact for Contract Management contract requirements and obligations - will receive, prioritize, coordinate, monitor contract obligations and issues
  • Support complex projects within Legal Resources and Corporate Governance, including from time-to-time those outside of Contract Management
  • Advise on methods and recommend changes in IESO contract management policies, procedures, standards, processes, and strategies
  • Develop original and creative solutions that meet business needs
  • Seek opportunities to provide value added solutions for projects and to facilitate continuous improvement
  • Coordinate and monitor Contract Management logistics and budget
  • Other duties or responsibilities as may be assigned
What you need to succeed
  • 4-year University Degree
  • 6-8 years of experience in the electricity industry - a grounding in legal, economic and/or technical aspects of electricity generation programs
  • Electricity generation - knowledge of the technical aspects of electricity generation from renewable sources, including wind, solar PV, biogas, and hydro.
  • Generation contracts - thorough understanding of the various generation contracts used by the IESO for renewable generation, including the rational and importance for each of the various provisions in the contracts.
  • Counterparty focus - demonstrated ability to work with contract counterparties in a challenging environment
  • Ability to work effectively within a group and must be able to effectively coordinate with IESO staff and external stakeholders
  • Project management and project scheduling experience with an emphasis on being a self-directed and highly motivated individual
  • Knowledge and ability to prepare documents using Excel, Power Point and Visio
  • Detail oriented and must be able to handle multiple priorities in a faced-paced environment
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills
  • Excellent people management skills; experience working with teams in a matrix environment
