Our Energy Risk Management team is looking for a Senior Analyst, Market Risk to join their team in creating and maintaining required contracts and assets models, analyzing market risks for new transactions, establish risk indicators and support the commercial teams with quantitative modelling and optimization analysis. The incumbent will produce daily and weekly risk reports; develop risk monitoring and analytical tools using various sources of data; and work closely with other members of the Risk Management Group and the Trading Group to track, quantify, and understand energy market risks. What you'll be doing: Market Risk
  • Work with the broader Market Risk team with its routine tasks and operation including interfacing with other Risk functions, the Front office teams and the Canadian Energy Trading team;
  • Develop models for complex transactions and contracts that include optionality and/or various commodities
  • Support the development of optimization strategies aimed at extracting incremental value from physical assets;
  • Present quantitative analysis results and insights to Front Office functions and senior management;
  • Review the Market Risks for new proposed transactions and recommend adequate mitigation measures;
  • Support the development and maintenance of VaR, back testing and stress testing processes;
  • Support ad-hoc analytical requests from the front office (basis risk analysis, Plant generation optimization, etc);
  • Develop and implement analysis to model energy and congestion forward prices, volatility and market correlations using various fundamental, analytical and technical tools;
  • Review and validate valuation models created by the Front office and Finance teams as necessary
Risk Control
  • Monitor trading activities to ensure compliance with policies, guidelines, and established limits;
  • Understand and report portfolio changes through profit and loss attribution analysis;
  • Collaborate with various departments to update and maintain information in the Trade Capture System;
  • Provide ongoing analytical valuation of physical generation assets; physical electricity purchases and sales; transmission positions; and financial commodity products (options, forwards, swaps);
  • Understand portfolio risk, including non-linear real option exposures, correlations, and relationships to key drivers (i.e. weather, hydrology, locational basis, etc.);
  • Participate in group initiatives to improve risk reporting and reporting infrastructure/processes;
  • Support drafting risk policies and documents;
  • Work on ad-hoc analytical requests from senior management and other teams;

What you must have:
  • Undergraduate degree in quantitative finance or another quantitative discipline (e.g. economics, mathematics, physics or engineering); a Master's degree and/or financial designation (e.g. CFA, FRM or ERP) is considered an asset;
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in energy and/or financial markets;
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office, with emphasis on MS Excel; programming skills in VBA, Matlab or Python are considered an asset;
  • Experience with Alteryx or other data analytics platform is considered an asset;
  • Familiar with the use of Bloomberg terminal;
  • Knowledge of derivatives and/or previous experience in quantitative analysis; actuarial background is a definite asset;
  • Knowledge of electricity and natural gas markets in North America is an asset;
  • Excellent writing skills; Experience writing Risk policies and analysis presentations is considered an asset;
