Position Summary

The Corporate Development group is tasked with supporting growth projects for the Company. This role provides senior management with analytical support for making capital investment decisions on conventional and/or low carbon methanol projects in partnership with the Company\'s low carbon solutions team. This role will support reviewing project ideas, provide oversight of technical reviews, assess project returns, and help prioritize capital for growth projects across the company.

Position Responsibilities

Financial Analytical Support and Analysis
  • Design, review and completion of detailed economic analysis to measure the value creation of discrete investment opportunities or to support recommendations to acquire new operations/business via independent economic valuation models, typically based on discounted cash flow (DCF), including the identification and quantification of risks and opportunities for each project.
  • Identification and documentation of all key assumptions supporting valuation model (e.g, revenue, costs, escalation, growth, manpower, logistics).
  • Communication with the appropriate internal experts on specific assumptions and scrutiny of corresponding results.
  • Presentation of results to the project sponsor and other senior team members to review, debate, and rework analysis for presentation to senior leadership team.
  • Acts as peer reviewer for other analysts to ensure accuracy and consistency of analysis within the team.
  • Reviews and understands carbon abatement costs and government production and consumption incentive schemes in multiple jurisdictions and translates these into economic valuation models.
  • Rotates ownership of the review, update and management of the Methanex corporate model, which is a vital tool relied on by the CEO and Senior Management for assessing strategic investment opportunities for the Company. The analysis supports the annual strategy process, company valuation assessments, M&A and other analysis supporting recommendations to the Board of Directors.
Commercial Negotiation Support
  • Participation in commercial negotiations with outside vendors, potential partners, and third-party suppliers when progressing project evaluations.
  • Contribution to the development of commercial contracts and term sheets associated with growth projects.
  • Support to due diligence initiatives as necessary.
  • Identification and understanding of key variables associated with item being negotiated.
  • Examination of costs and corresponding values related to the various potential outcomes.
  • Proof of contracted terms relative to economic analysis for alignment with expectations.
  • Identification of range of value outcomes relative to negotiation position.
  • Presentation and debate of implications with negotiation team.

Position Qualifications

Education
  • Related University Degree - Business, Finance, Chemical/Mechanical Engineering focus desirable.
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) or Master of Business (MBA) designation preferred to ensure disciplined analytical approach and solid understanding of accounting, and thorough knowledge of DCF analysis and other valuation tools.
Experience and Skills
  • At least 5-7 years of strong analytical experience in similar industries with global operations.
  • Strong financial analysis skills.
  • Process engineering skills desirable.
  • Previous experience with developing external relationships desirable.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment and associated processes industries, considered an asset.
  • Expert knowledge of Excel and strong knowledge base of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to understand assumptions when interpreting results.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required to confidently interact with all levels of the organization.
