The SCADA Specialist / Engineer is responsible for the maintenance, support, and improvement of the SCADA system to ensure effective, safe, real-time operation of the ATCO Gas Transmission System.

The Incumbent is also responsible for ensuring the SCADA system remains current and reliable by continually evaluating the system performance and consequently modifying or adding new software, hardware as company requirements change as well as to maintain documentation with respect to capital projects and cybersecurity initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Investigate, evaluate, and prioritize SCADA system requirements relative to evolving technology, cybersecurity, and company requirements
  • Work with the SCADA Support team to review, coordinate, test, and implement improvements to the SCADA system
  • Prepare and submit SCADA capital project scope, schedule, forecast and cost estimates
  • Coordinate and collaborate with SCADA Support team to implement, test, and commission SCADA capital projects, often involving various vendors
  • Represent ATCO in industry peers' groups for information sharing and continual improvement
  • Oversee asset, change and incident management for the industrial control system
  • Continually improve documentation and processes relating to SCADA standards, cybersecurity, and network infrastructure
  • Promote industry accepted cybersecurity practices, as well as, the cybersecurity management plan to ensure the safety and reliability of the ATCO natural gas transmission system
  • Act as a vendor liaison by administering hardware and software service contracts
  • Support end users by assisting in application access and data collection and its distribution to other business departments
  • Overseeing and mentoring junior team members.
  • Understand and adhere to relevant company policies and procedures, particularly in the areas of safety, ethical behavior and affiliated company transactions
  • Actively participate in and help maintain a safe, non-discriminatory positive work environment
Qualifications:
  • Graduate or Undergraduate degree in Computer Engineering; or Electrical Engineering degree would be optimal but not required. The related technical experience with an equivalent combination of computing education and experience is required
  • Membership, or eligible for membership, in APEGA as a Professional Engineer or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) would be an asset but is not required
  • Minimum 3-5 years of industry (oil & gas or utilities) experience in a SCADA Specialist role is required
  • Cybersecurity Certification such as Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Information Systems Security Professional, (CISSP), or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) would be considered an asset
  • Networking Certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) would be considered an asset
  • Experience in project management would be considered an asset
  • Experience with scripting languages and object-oriented programming
  • Strong understanding and experience in relational/ tag databases, preferably in Microsoft SQL and OSI Pi
  • Experience in Windows System administration and Active Directory
  • Good knowledge of SCADA systems, DCS, and process control would be considered an asset
  • Demonstrates technical aptitude and analytical skills, good verbal and written communication skills, initiative, and responsible work habits
  • Understanding of ATCO Gas Transmission System would be considered an asset
