SCADA Specialist

Public Works \xe2\x80\x93 Wastewater

Contract Full-Time, 24 Months

Salary Range: $86,443 - $108,052 per annum

Location: 2307 Lakeshore Road W, Mississauga ON

Hours of work: 35 hours per week

The Role:

Reporting to the Manager Automation and Controls of the Public Works Division the SCADA Specialist will be responsible for the design, management, programming, implementation, and support of OT systems and IT technology specific to Water and Wastewater Operations, ensuring construction compliance with design and standards adhering to ISA112 and Region Standards, development of change management strategies and related documentation and reporting.

In this role you will:

  • Work closely with SCADA Project Managers for network and server architecture design and implementation, and providing technical assistance of defined projects to meet short and long term project schedules.
  • SCADA hardware and software programming and implementation for Water/Wastewater/Energy/Security operations and capital works initiatives.
  • SCADA services support, responsible for building, managing, operating, and continuously improving Standards, Systems, Storage, Database, and/or Tools Infrastructure that support Peel SCADA customer facing applications. Responsibilities consist of maintaining and troubleshooting of the SCADA systems hardware (including Server, industrial computers, desktop and Thin Client hardware) and software.
  • Provide in-depth knowledge of Operating Systems (Windows/Linux) to aid in troubleshooting complex problems. Recommends or helps architect Industrial LAN/WAN systems, including network design and topology.
  • Field troubleshooting, including diagnosing control system component issues, using field documentation, operations manuals and specifications.
  • Resolves break/fix scenarios, working with broader teams as necessary and partners/leads vendors and regions to achieve continuous improvement. Provide planned and unplanned (after business hours on-call support) maintenance/troubleshooting of SCADA system hardware and software for all water/wastewater and landfill regional sites.
  • Provide feedback identifying and suggesting mitigation strategies of security risks, data integrity risks and opportunities for implementation of current industry best practices.
  • Coordinate, develop and participate in SCADA training and implementation for internal clients and Operations staff as required by projects or departmental initiatives.
  • Provide technical support to other capital works project managers and operations staff. Responsibilities will include, liaising with vendors and contractors to validate testing of software in conjunction with Regional standards.
  • Programming and development to support advanced data analytics and business intelligence systems at the enterprise level.
  • Develop and thoroughly review test plans and participate in various factory and site acceptance testing (FAT and SAT).
  • Contribute to the development of long-range SCADA planning and departmental project implementation goals.
  • Program HMI applications using Ignition Perspective and develop backend scripts in Python.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Electrical or Computer Science Engineering or Technology Diploma in Computer Science and/or Process Automation (CET) or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of three years previous experience within the industry.
  • Polished communicator displayed through oral and written communication.
  • Field experience troubleshooting all components of the control system.
  • Practical knowledge of Server hardware, desktop computers, thin clients, MS Windows Server OS, Linux Ubuntu, VMWare Esxi, Proxmox and MS Terminal Services.
  • Strong knowledge of LAN/WAN systems integration, switching and routing and VPNs.
  • Experienced with network security and intrusion detection technologies.
  • Working knowledge of security standards AWWA/NERC/DHS/CRRIRC.
  • Sound understanding of design and specifications of SCADA systems and process control equipment.
  • Knowledge of municipal water and wastewater processes and equipment
  • Experienced in IEC-61131-3 PLC programming, Ignition Perspective, Aveva Intouch, MySQL, MSSQL, OSI Pi, Python, communication protocols such as OPC-UA, Modbus and MQTT Sparkplug.
  • Experience with Version Control (Git).
  • Experience with Docker.
  • Understanding of IIoT solutions including data flows to Azure or AWS and API development.
  • Familiarity of relevant legislation related to municipal water/wastewater operations and health and safety.
  • Ignition Training Credential or Core-Certified is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS considered an asset.
  • \xe2\x80\x98G\xe2\x80\x99 Class Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License in good standing.

*Location: In this role you will have the ability to work remotely and attend on-site when required based on operational requirements at the 2307 Lakeshore Road W, Mississauga ON worksite. The frequency of on-site activities may vary on a weekly basis and based on operational requirements. Your remote work location must be located within the province of Ontario.
