The Safety Advisor will be responsible to provide safety support and services to our hauling businesses in our Manitoba region. Duties include, but are not limited to, driver training, evaluations and support of the performance management program, regular customer site inspections, incident prevention, emergency response, incident and accident investigation, and reporting. This Safety Advisor will spend up to 85% of their time each week in the field working alongside our professional truck drivers and customers. The remaining 15% of their time will be spent in the office completing the various administrative tasks required to support the work in the field and maintain the high level of attention to safety we\xe2\x80\x99ve built into our company culture. **This position is based in our Winnipeg Terminal.

The POSITION and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducting competency assessments, safe behavior observations, covert observations and safety meetings in field/on job sites align with KPIs in place
  • Supporting incident/accident investigations and recoveries
  • New and reoccurring employee training plans align with programs in place in collaboration with the safety department and dispatch
  • Ensuring identified hazards have an implemented corrective action plan and discussed with employee and customer as required
  • Being an internal collector for company Alcohol and Drug program
  • Supervising and training drivers on product loading and unloading where required
  • Supporting the development of (and train) standard operating procedures and safe work procedures for warehouse staff, dispatch, and drivers
  • Liaising with existing customers regarding all aspects of terminal business and identify opportunities for growth on alternate commodities
  • Active involvement with the dispatch teams to capitalize on operating efficiencies and quickly align resources to customers\xe2\x80\x99 needs
  • Other duties as assigned
The INDIVIDUAL and QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Three years\xe2\x80\x99 related safety experience in the transportation industry
  • Ability to be on call to attend to incidents that occur \xe2\x80\x93 flexibility is important!
  • Class 1 driver\xe2\x80\x99s license is required
  • H2S and First Aid certifications is required
  • Overnight travel to various sites may be required (incident response)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality
  • Proficient written communication skills to accurately articulate the events, results and investigation of incidents to both internal and external audiences
  • Good working knowledge of the transportation industry and its operation with knowledge of a variety of commodities including dangerous goods
  • Proficient in a Windows system environment
  • OH&S Certificate or courses is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of the dispatch system, TMW is an asset
