CCPHE is a research unit located in the School of Population and Public Health at the University of British Columbia. CCPHE is committed to encouraging and facilitating health, education, research, service, and advocacy to enhance the social well-being and reintegration of individuals transitioning from prison into their communities.xe2x80x9cUnderstanding the Geography of Overdose: A Mixed Methods Studyxe2x80x9d is a multi phase research project aimed at identifying the geographic and built environment factors that influence the risk of fatal overdose. The Research Coordinator will work with the research team (including Principal Investigator Dr. Amanda Slaunwhite, co-Investigators, and trainees) to coordinate all research activities. Activities include a scoping review, key informant interviews, other qualitative data collection, scheduling meetings, completing ethics applications, and other coordination activities as needed.Organizational Status
The Research Coordinator will report directly to the CCPHE Research Manager. The CCPHE Research Manager reports to the CCPHE Director, Dr. Amanda Slaunwhite. The Research Coordinator will also communicate with the investigative team.The Research Coordinator position and the CCPHE are located in the School of Population and Public Health (SPPH), which is within the Faculty of Medicine at the Vancouver campus of the University of British Columbia (UBC). The School is an innovative unit that encompasses many of the health-related groupings at the University. The School is structured around four divisions: Occupational and Environmental Health; Health Services and Policy; Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Public Health Practice; and Health in Populations. The resulting mix of professions and disciplines is seen as a means of connecting individuals and learners to galvanize the relationship between health research, public health and health services and to enhance learning.Work Performed1. Research Coordination
- Develops and implements project proposals, protocols, work plans and timelines.
- Coordinates all activities related to the research project, including knowledge translation (KT) as outlined in the project proposal.
- Prepares Behavioural Research Ethics Board (BREB) applications and annual project ethics reviews and updates.
- Ensures ethical standards of research are maintained.
- Develops procedures to support research protocols.
- Provides training and support for research assistants in relation to data collection, data management and preparation of reports. Supervises work completed by research assistants.
- Coordinates data collection.
- Monitors workflow to ensure high quality data collection and management within project timelines.
- Ensures that data are appropriately archived.
- Responds to inquiries from research participants and collaborators related to on-going research.
- Develops KT products and coordinates KT activities and events.
- Codes and prepares preliminary analysis of transcripts.
- Prepares manuscripts for submission and publication in peer-reviewed journals.
- Prepares annual reports, presentations, and posters.
- Conducts literature reviews.2. Works collaboratively with others to meet the objectives of the research project:
- Coordinates times, space, and activities for the research team meetings
- Summarizes main points and key ideas from the research team meetings.
- Ensures timely notification to the CCPHE Research Manager of issues or problems.
- Facilitates communication and collaboration to support the interdisciplinary research team.
- Works collaboratively with researchers and men and women in BC communities with lived incarceration experience.3. Performs other duties to provide project-specific or overall team support, as required:
- Ensures adequate supplies are available.
- Ensures CCPHE web page content and social media postings are up-to-date.
- Ensures that project files are set up and maintained.
- Provides support to the CCPHE Research Manager, CCPHE Director, and research team.
- Flexibility in working hours and some travel may be required to meet deadlines, or to support special events.Consequence of Error/Judgement
The work of the Research Coordinator will be monitored by the CCPHE Research Manager. Research Coordinator will engage with people with lived incarceration experience, and the incumbent is expected to work with efficiency and sensitivity. Errors or incorrect decisions could compromise the quality of the research, compromise the collegial relationships with partners and/or participants, result in delays in completing projects, and potentially impact the credibility of the School and its investigators. Inability to exercise sound and sensitive judgement could diminish the investigator and/or School ability to attract the support of the scientific community and/or lead to poor public/private sector relationships and partnerships. The work of the Research Coordinator must be completed at a high level of accuracy and efficiency.This position will be responsible for access, collection, use and disclosure of personal information in accordance with the BC Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (RSBC 1996) and other UBC privacy and security policies. This position requires employees to work under strict confidentiality requirements; internal procedures and policies to protect personal information must be followed and adherence to these requirements will be regularly reviewed by the employer.Supervision Received
The Research Coordinator position will work under general direction of the CCPHE Research Manager, CCPHE Director, and the research team. It is imperative that the Research Coordinator work collaboratively and with minimal supervision. The incumbent will act independently in performing defined duties and will alert the CCPHE Research Manager to any unusual situations, and will keep them advised of problems as they arise or are anticipated.Supervision Given
The Research Coordinator may supervise work study or summer students who might be hired to work on assigned studies. The Research Coordinator will assign and check work completed.Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of three years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.- Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with onexe2x80x99s own- Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing onexe2x80x99s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusionPreferred QualificationsPost-graduate degree in a relevant discipline in a Health or Social Sciences preferred.Knowledge of working with under-served populations and health prevention an asset.Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods applicable to health behaviour research.Experience in working with multi-disciplinary, multi-site research teams.Experience with successfully managing multi-phase research projects in a multi-disciplinary environment through to completion.Prior experience working with community-based participatory research projects a requirement. Experience with Workday preferred.Knowledge of working with under-served populations and health prevention an asset.Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods applicable to health behaviour research. Excellent knowledge of granting agency requirements and application procedures.Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods applicable to health behaviour research.
