Part-time Research Coordinator



Position:

Research Coordinator with a 1-year contract, with possibility of extension based on availability of grant funds

Hours and Salary:

24 hours/week at $35-37/hour commensurate with experience

Job Summary

The part-time research coordinator will work with Dr. Jean Buckler (School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education) and Dr. Megan Ames (Clinical Psychology) at the University of Victoria on research studies related to physical literacy, 24-hour movement behaviours, mental health, stress, and settings-based interventions. The overall objective of Dr. Buckler and Ames' research is to: (1) better understand how physical literacy, movement behaviours, and mental health are interrelated in an adolescent population; and (2) develop settings-based interventions (i.e. whole of school, childcare) to improve opportunities for positive health behaviours. The research coordinator will assist with project management, data collection and analysis, and knowledge translation activities. Some tasks can be completed remotely (if desired, and if the available remote location allows for conservation of confidentiality, i.e., for confidential phone communication, etc.). However, some on-campus work will be required within the Buckler and Ames Labs (Gordon Head Campus).

Duties and Responsibilities:

Managing all aspects of the research project, including:

o Developing and reviewing research protocols (e.g., surveys, interview guides).

o Developing ethics applications.

o Recruiting participants (e.g., via social media and community organizations).

o Assisting with data collection and management (e.g., online surveys, qualitative interviews, and focus groups).

o Supporting qualitative and quantitative data analysis.

o Assisting with writing research-related materials, including reports, presentations, and manuscripts.

o Assisting in the development and collation of

Managing day-to-day operations of the research project, including:

o Coordinating documentation and communication for stakeholders and investigators across multiple organizations.

o Processing research-related reimbursements (e.g., participant honoraria, travel expenses).

o Ensuring the project is on track and meets expected milestones, outputs, and deliverables.

Qualifications:

Master's degree in a health science-related field (e.g., kinesiology, psychology, nursing, etc.).

Resident of British Columbia

Able to work independently and as a member of a team.

Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.

Functional knowledge of regulations related to conducting research (e.g., research ethics, information security/ confidentiality).

Experience collecting and analyzing qualitative data.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Quantitative research experience is an asset.

Experience conducting systematic reviews is an asset.

Experience coordinating multiple research studies at the same time is an asset.

Experience mentoring or overseeing students, staff, volunteers is an asset.
