The Department of Cell & Systems Biology at the University of Toronto invites applications for a Research Associate (Limited Term) for a 1-year appointment. The anticipated start date is May 1, 2023.
The Research Associate is expected to independently carry out and conduct a grant-funded research project investigating the role of pcdh15 in photoreceptor development and function in a pre-clinical zebrafish model of Usher Syndrome 1F. The project requires performing experiments in zebrafish using CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing and transgenesis, immunohistochemical and transcriptomic analyses of retinal tissue, and assessment of retinal function in larval and adult zebrafish using electroretinogram (ERG) recordings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education - PhD in Developmental Genetics
Experience - Demonstrated postdoctoral experience of at least 4 years using zebrafish as a model system to investigate the molecular genetic mechanisms of retinal development and degeneration, especially related to experimental modeling of retinitis pigmentosa diseases. Demonstrated experience in molecular cloning, zebrafish embryo microinjection, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, transcriptome analyses, histology, confocal microscopy, and electroretinogram (ERG) recordings in zebrafish larvae and adults.
Skills - Demonstrated experience in using bioinformatics to analyze DNA and protein sequences (e.g., ENSEMBL, NCBI, UniProt, gnomAD, ClinVar, etc.). Excellent skills in verbal and written communication with demonstrated experience in publishing research in high quality academic journals, presenting at academic conferences, and successfully contributing to external research grants.
Ohters - Demonstrated experience working in a collaborative research environment and successfully mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
